Sweden plans tax crackdown on poker sitesby MT Bureau - July 8, 2007 - 0 comments
Stockholm, Sweden -- Sweden plans a special tax collection effort aimed at operators of poker Web sites serving as entryways to sites for on-line gambling. The Swedish Tax Board believes sites providing gambling-related content and links to gambling sites are paid for by every player who clicks through, The Local reports. Officials say the undeclared income may be allowing operators of these sites to evade millions of dollars in taxes. "It's not individual poker players we're after, it's sites who live on sending players through to gaming sites," said Dag Hardyson, national project leader for the Tax Board's internet unit. Some Web site operators may be prosecuted for tax evasion in addition to being forced to pay up on what they owe. Copyright 2007 by United Press International. Post new comment |
