Lake Forest, Ill. -- The Chicago Bears Monday waived defensive tackle Tank Johnson, citing another off-field incident involving police.

Johnson was stopped for allegedly speeding in Arizona last Friday and was cited for "being impaired to the slightest degree," a police spokesman told the Chicago Tribune.

The third-year NFL player had already been suspended for the first eight games of the upcoming season for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy.
"We are upset and embarrassed by Tank's actions last week," Bears General Manager Jerry Angelo said Monday. "He compromised the credibility of our organization. We made it clear to him that he had no room for error. Our goal was to help someone through a difficult period in his life but the effort needs to come from both sides. It didn't, and we have decided to move on."

Johnson was sentenced to 120 days in jail on March 15 for violating probation from a gun charge in 2005. Last December, he was arrested on misdemeanor weapons charges after police raided his home and found several guns.
