Giambi to meet with Mitchell on steroidsby MT Bureau - June 22, 2007 - 0 comments
New York -- Jason Giambi Thursday said he would meet with a committee headed by former U.S. Sen. George Mitchell, D-Maine, looking into steroids in Major League Baseball. The committee headed by the former Senate majority leader was formed 16 months ago at the request of MLB Commissioner Bud Selig. "Two weeks ago, I asked Mr. Giambi to submit to an interview with Sen. Mitchell and I am pleased that Mr. Giambi has agreed to do so," Selig said in a statement on MLB.com. "Mr. Giambi has informed me in a phone conversation that he is willing to discuss with Sen. Mitchell his personal involvement with performance-enhancing substances. His willingness to do this is an important step forward in Sen. Mitchell's continued efforts to provide me with a comprehensive report." Giambi was quoted by USA Today last month as saying baseball needs to apologize for the issue of steroids in the sport. The Yankees slugger is currently is sidelined by a left foot injury. Copyright 2007 by United Press International. Post new comment |
