Share prices of many a company have known to crash on the announcement of some adverse news. Episodes of product failures or frauds being detected may result in crash in the stock prices.
So why should a person like me who has no hold over such events invest my money, earned with the sweat of my brow, in stock markets.
The sensex may have crossed the 13000 mark, but what is the big deal about it? The historic achievement of the sensex does not protect me from the indiviual fall of a stock price. Needless to say if the markets crash, everybody loses.
Would like to remind you of a stock price crash that resulted in wiping off billions of the shareholders' wealth. The fraud at Enron resulted in its stock price plummet from $33.84 to $0.19 eroding a clean $25 billion in shareholders' wealth. Jeffrey Skilling ( the man beind the fraud )may have been sentenced to 24 years behind bars, but the shareholders have had to bear the brunt and that too for no fault of their own.
So, if somebody was to sell me shares even at a reduced price , I would say, "No, Thank You." I should not face the music for somebody elses (mis)doings
