Joining the league of other telecom service providers, Tata Docomo has decided to cut its 2G and 3G data rates by 90 percent from July 1. The existing rates are 10 paise per 10 Kb and will be slashed down to 1 paisa per 10 Kb.
This rate will apply for users exceeding 2G or 3G data quantum limit and will be available for national roaming customers too.
This step has been taken to attract more customers and making internet services more pocket-friendly for the growing number of youth users. This is something to look forward to. This will be applicable in all 19 circles where it provides service.
“This will increase data penetration across segments and 90 percent discount will serve as a customer friendly yet clear differentiator for our customers”, Gurinder Singh Sandhu, head of marketing, Tata Docomo, said in a statement.
The revised tariffs will be applicable on 2G mobile internet packs offered by the company on recharging value of Rs.126 (2 Gb for 30 days), Rs. 149 (2.5 Gb for 30 days) and Rs. 249 (3 Gb for 60 days) and 3G data pack would be for Rs. 255 (2 Gb for 30 days), the statement said.

Earlier, Vodafone and Airtel went for a steep reduction in the 2G data charges by 80 and 90 percent respectively. Following the suit, Idea lowered the 2G data charges by 90 percent in 8 circles.
Bharti Airtel lowered its data usage charges in Punjab and Haryana while Idea slashed the rates in Tamil Nadu, Chennai, Karnataka , Kolkata, West Bengal, Assam, North East, Orissa and Bihar. Its postpaid and prepaid subscribers can use data at just 2 paise for 10 Kb from July 1.
Vodafone has decided to lower its 2G data rates in Karnataka, UP West, MPCG and will nationalise it in a phased manner. Bharti Airtel slashed 4G data charges by 31 percent to expand its fourth generation of wireless broadband services in Chandigarh, Bangalore, Kolkata and Pune.
This is a good initiative taken to enhance the number of users. Lets hope the quality of service is also maintained. Cheers!
