In a bid to gain momentum in the tablet market, Samsung revealed yet another addition to the Note lineup, a smaller tablet, the Galaxy Note 8.0 on Sunday in Barcelona.
The official announcement came just hours before the Mobile World Congress, the wireless industry's annual trade show, which starts Monday in Barcelona, Spain.
Upon the unveiling, it became apparent that the Galaxy Note 8.0 is Samsung’s answer to Apple's hot selling iPad Mini tablet that debuted last November.
“Back in 2010 the launch of the first Samsung GALAXY Tab with 7 inch screen opened a new chapter in the mobile industry. Now almost three years later, Samsung continues to evolve the sector that meets the demands of modern life.” said JK Shin, President of the IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics.

The new Galaxy Note 8.0 fills the gap between the 5.5″ Galaxy Note II smartphone, and the larger Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet. The Note 8.0 is packed into a 7.95mm body weighing in at 338grams and comes in glossy plastic body.
It has an 8-inch screen, which is approximately the same size as Apple's iPad Mini tablet. The Galaxy Note 8.0 features an Exynos chipset with a 1.6GHz A9 quad-core CPU and 2GB of RAM. Both16 and 32GB models will be available with built-in memory and a microSD card slot for further expansion.
The new tablet comes with WXGA resolution (1280 x 800 pixels) and a pixel density of 189ppi. Moreover, the device is equipped with a 5 megapixel rear camera and a 1.3MP front-facing unit.
Running on Android OS 4.1.2 Jelly Bean with Samsung's TouchWiz software, the Note 8 .0 has the ability to run two apps at the same time in a split screen.

The tablet offers an AV Remote with IR blaster to control your TV and other home theater gear. Other features include SmartStay, Samsung ChatOn and Samsung's AllShare dLNA software.
“The GALAXY Note 8.0 breaths fresh life into the category as it delivers the perfect fusion of portability and everyday productivity – the result is a pioneering, pocket-sized solution that enhances and enriches our everyday lives, whether at work or play,” said JK Shin, Samsung’s Mobile Communication President.
