2. NXR electric car Reva from the house of Mahindra.
3. Chevrolet Sail U-VA hatchback
4. Tata Safari Storme and Club Class Indigo Manza
5. New Ford Figo
With the lucrative festival season around the corner, carmakers have lined up several new launches to woo customers back to showrooms and revive a slowing market.
Let’s check out which cars would hit Indian roads this festive season!!
10 new launches
The most eagerly awaited launch could well be the new model that Maruti is bringing in on October 16. The refreshed version of its all-time hit car 800cc, will replace the Alto F8 version, India’s top selling car for the last 8 years which the company has recently stopped manufacturing.
With promise of higher fuel efficiency, increased space and improved road performance, the car could help Maruti regain some of its lost ground in the semi-urban markets and first time buyers.
Ford India will be launching their new Figo facelift a day before the Alto. Though interiors will remain more or less the same, the exterior design is likely to have some changes. A new front indicator infused in redesigned headlamps, a new tail lamp cluster while new bumpers, alloy wheels and new designed grille are some of the upgrades expected. Sporty colors of yellow and aquamarine blue may to be part of the facelift.
Apart from these two, Tata Motors is unveiling a new ‘Club Class’ variant of the Indigo Manza, while Honda is reportedly planning to launch the diesel variant of its popular hatchback car Brio before Diwali. Chevrolet will also look to woo buyers with the launch of the Spark compact hatchback with a fresh look.
There is also some excitement about Tata Motors much-awaited new Safari Storme SUV which is expected to hit Indian roads soon.
In addition, we can expect two cars to be launched pre-Diwali from the house of Mahindras. The company is planning to roll out its NXR electric car Reva which can seat four by November. Also, Mahindra will introduce the first product from its Ssangyong stable — the Rexton II premium SUV.
General Motors (GM) will launch the Chevrolet Sail U-VA hatch in November and its first seven-seater MPV, the Enjoy, in December.
Will the festive season perk up sales?
Car sales traditionally peak during the festival season, helping the auto industry record huge incremental sales.
Analysts expect the entry of so many cars coupled with the festive period sentiments to accelerate sales that slowed due to rising fuel prices, high interest rates and overall economic slowdown.
The surge in petrol prices have led to a flat car sales growth between April and September at 9.09 lakh units. However, the market for diesel variants plus the recent launches (Renault Duster, Maruti Ertiga) led the utility vehicle segment to post a sale of 2.55 lakh units in the same period.
Deepesh Rathore, MD at IHS Automotive India said, “There has not been much excitement in the compact car segment in recent times; so, sales have been slow. The new Alto is expected to stimulate growth in the segment that accounts for 27% of the car market.”
He added, “The festive season is the last big hope for the year to pick sales up and carmakers want to give their best shot. The demand should be as good as last year, if not better. There are issues at the macro level, but the reforms should cheer up the people."
