One of the largest oil companies of United States, ExxonMobil is expanding its Houston campus which will be enough to accommodate 10,000 workers in 2014.
ExxonMobil in the press release announced that the size of the campus will be expanded and additional employees from the company locations in Fairfax, VA and Akron, OH will be shifted in 2014 once the campus will be completed.
ExxonMobil is one of the largest traders of Oil and Gas and also the largest marketer of petroleum products.
More opportunities for collaboration and innovation
Bryan Milton, president of ExxonMobil Global Services Company in the statement said that the additional employees and new campus will offer more opportunities for collaboration and innovation. He added that in expanded campus ExxonMobil will able meet the growing demands and global needs.
Bryan Milton said, “Including additional employees on the new campus will provide even more opportunities for collaboration and innovation, supporting ExxonMobil's mission of delivering energy to meet growing global needs.”
The new campus in Houston
The new campus will become fully operational in 2014 and till 2015 it is expected to be occupied by the employees fully. The newly build campus will have multiple low-rise office buildings which will be fitted with laboratory, conference and training centers and facilities such as child care and wellness center.
The new campus will be situated in the company owned land near the intersection of I-45 and the Hardy Toll Road. The new campus is constructed with high standards of energy efficiency and environmental stewardship according to the company.
The construction of the campus was started in 2011 and work such as construction of access roads and bridges, central utilities, computer support and parking facilities has been done since then.
Effects of the new campus
Bryan Milton might have stated that the new campus will bring more opportunities but ExxonMobil is taking out about 2,100 jobs out of Fairfax region from where the company is relocating.
Fairfax offices of ExxonMobil's Refining and Supply Company, ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company, ExxonMobil Fuels, Lubricants & Specialties Marketing Company and the Akron-based employees of ExxonMobil Chemical Company will be relocated to Houston in 2014.
