Nike to auction 1500 pairs of 2011 MAG shoes for charity

The shoes are made of ultra light material and sport a glowing Nike emblem.

Ever wanted to own the Nike Air MAG shoes sported by Marty McFly in 'Back to the Future II'? Well here your chance to grab a pair. The sneakers worn by Michael J. Fox in the 1989 classic film is finally a reality... sort of.

In an exclusive press conference held at West Covina, Calif., Wednesday, Nike CEO Mike Parker announced the auction of 1,500 pairs of 2011 Nike MAGs on Fashion Vault eBay.

The press release stated, "The NIKE MAG is no longer the 'greatest shoe never made.' The mythical shoe that originally captured the imagination of audiences in Back to the Future II is being released.”

"We wanted to translate the excitement people have for the 'greatest shoe never made' and for the 'Back to the Future' into positive action. But the long-term objective is to raise awareness so the Foundation can achieve their goal of eradicating Parkinson's disease."--- Nike CEO Mike Parker

Proceeds for Parkinson’s disease
The auction will begin at 8:30 p.m. Pacific Standard Time tonight and will end on Sept. 18.

During the 10 days, 150 sets of shoes will be available for sale each day and the benefits will go directly to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's research.

Fox is afflicted with Parkinson’s and is a frontrunner for promoting better treatment facilities and cure for the debilitating disease.

Parker stated, "We wanted to translate the excitement people have for the 'greatest shoe never made' and for the 'Back to the Future' into positive action. But the long-term objective is to raise awareness so the Foundation can achieve their goal of eradicating Parkinson's disease."

The 2011Nike MAG shoes
Nike MAG shoes are a replica of the ones worn in 'Back to the Future II.' They are made of ultra light material and sport a glowing Nike emblem.

Though the 2011 Nike MAG shoes have the same high-ankle boot design as seen in the movie, they do not feature the awesome air-pressurized auto-lacing mechanism.

Nike stated, "The 2011 NIKE MAG shoe was designed to be a precise replica of the original from Back to the Future II. The aesthetic is an exact match, down to the contours of the upper, the glowing LED panel and the electroluminescent NIKE in the strap. The 2011 NIKE MAG illuminates with the pinch of the “ear” of the high top, glowing for five hours per charge."
