Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of the social networking behemoth Facebook, is all set to 'surprise' its 700 million users. The social networking site is planning to “launch something awesome” in the coming week, said the CEO.
Google, one of Facebook’s closest competitors, has just launched its social network Google+, therefore the upcoming surprise is likely to be a response to Google's move.
Though in his dialogue at the company’s Seattle centre, Zuckerberg did not reveal any further details about the new features, it is being speculated that the surprise could be in the tablet or mobile space.
Facebook’s mobile-product’s release is long time due
Recently, it was reported that Facebook is working over the development of various mobile products and features. The report also said that Facebook’s long-awaited apps for apple’s iPad will be ready for launch before long.
Various other mobile products including a specialized photo-sharing app for enabling photo-networking on the iphone was also reportedly ready for a public appearance.
"We are working on a number of exciting things that we have not yet announced, but stay tuned for next week," Andrew Bosworth, Facebook’s director of engineering was cited as saying the report.
The project has reportedly been worked out and developed at the 40-member Seattle office, which is Facebook’s most important engineering R&D centre outside of its Californian headquarters in Palo Alto.
The Seattle office has always benchmarked Facebook’s mobile products, efforts and services. It functions as a nucleus in the research and development of Facebook’s unified mobile website, which was started in March 2011.
Rumors also have it that Facebook is going to have a Skype powered video call service in its chat box soon. If this was the surprise Zuckerberg was talking about would be known soon.
Though Facebook is likely to disclose the launch by the mid of next week, anticipations and expectations are really high.
