Facebook offers private sharing of web pages through 'Send' button

The latest buzz about The Social Network features the introduction of a new friend just next to the 'Like' button!

Facebook officially announces the launch of the 'Send' button this Monday.

The 'Send' button allows to customise viewership of content one 'Likes' on various electronic pages. It complements the 'Like' button by facilitating private sharing among closed groups.

Users often feel uneasy to have all their 'Likes' featuring in News Feed. Designed as a part, the tool gives more meaning to "Facebook Groups" feature, which offers closed sharing among relatives, classmates and colleagues and now has 50 million users, mostly active.

The button is being installed by a few lines of code on more than 50 websites like Gilt Groupe, The Wall Street Journal, Orbitz, Last.fm, The Huffington Post, People.com and The Washington Post.

Utility of 'Send'
The 'Send' key is designed to enable link sharing among selected friends or groups, declared Facebook product manager Austin Haugen.

It is a user-friendly tool just like other Facebook features.

A user willing to share a page just needs to hit the “Send” button. A small pop-up appears thereof that allows selection of friends or "Groups" and typing e-mail addresses. A personalized message can be tagged alongwith and sent to friends' inboxes or posted on a Group wall. The process can be executed remaining on the very page of the concerned site.

The 'Send' key is rolled out as a trendy replacement to “e-mail to a friend” button and would render the latter redundant.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg termed it the “modern messaging system“.

More smart features introduced
Among other new features, photo albums for Groups is an interesting one. Unlike before, an entire album can be uploaded to a group now. Viewing these albums would be restricted among the group, tagged photos inclusive.

'Questions', a last month re-launch, would allow an exchange strictly private within the groups.

Approval from administrators would be necessary for groups with extra privacy. Even an invitation won't ensure entry to the group unless the admin gives a nod.

Last but not the least, the total number of 'Likes' for a page would be counted by the 'Send' button. Now, the grand total would be attained by adding up likes, shares, comments and inbox messages having the URL for the page in question.
