Lindsay Lohan suspected in jewelry theft

The store’s video surveillance footage supposedly shows 'The Mean Girls' star wearing the necklace immediately before it went missing last month.

Lindsay Lohan is once again the center of attention in yet another scandal; this time again because of possible jewelry theft. The troubled Hollywood singer-actress said to have stolen a necklace from a high-end jewelry store.

An on and off rehab visitor LiLo is being investigated by Los Angeles police after the theft of a necklace from a Venice boutique.

LiLo a jewel thief?
The Los Angeles Police Department launched an investigation against the troubled actress after the Southern California jewelry store owner filed a theft report.

In the complain, the owner reportedly claimed that Lindsay was wearing the $5,000 necklace that soon disappeared from the store.

The store’s video surveillance footage supposedly shows 'The Mean Girls' star wearing the necklace immediately before it went missing last month.

But, before the detectives could be able to serve the warrant, a Lohan associate turned the precious necklace over to the Pacific Division police station, the Los Angeles Times says.

Search warrant issued but never served
Detectives then began looking into the case and had filed for a search warrant for Lindsay’s home.

But, before the detectives could be able to serve the warrant, a Lohan associate turned the precious necklace over to the Pacific Division police station, the Los Angeles Times says.

"Law enforcement sources tell RadarOnline.com that Lindsay is suspected to have stolen a high-end piece of jewelry, most likely a necklace," Dylan Howard Sr., executive editor of the celebrity gossip website, told CBS News' "The Early Show."

"As we understand it," Howard says, "police have in their possession video they believe forms a very powerful piece of evidence in this case - video that shows Lindsay Lohan wearing the necklace in question."

DA will decide on theft case
As of Wednesday, the Los Angeles County district attorney's office was reviewing the LAPD investigation into allegations that the 24-year-old Hollywood actress has stolen a $2,500 necklace from the Venice jewelry store.

Officials at the attorney's office will make a decision before the weekend on whether or not to formally charge the actress for stealing the "one-of-a-kind" necklace, according to TMZ.com.

"They presented the evidence about mid-day," Sandi Gibbons, a spokeswoman for the prosecutor said Wednesday afternoon. "We have the case under review. No decision will be made today. I can't say when it might be made."

Lindsay denies having any necklace
Meanwhile, Linday has denied any wrongdoings, claiming that the store owner is "nuts" for suggesting that she stole the necklace.

According to the gossip website TMZ, the actress has said: "It's bulls**t ... I don't have any necklace."

The former Betty Ford Clinic resident Lohan is currently on supervised probation relating to a 2007 conviction for driving under the influence (DUI). The judge overseeing her case warned the actress in October that he would send her to jail for six months if she violated her probation rules.

LiLo left the Betty Ford Clinic a month ago after a three-month court-ordered drug rehabilitation program.

Her next court appearance is set for Feb. 25.
