British actor Henry Cavill has been chosen to play the role of iconic superhero, 'Superman,' in the new movie by Warner Bros. Pictures and set to release in December 2012.
The new 'Superman' movie will be directed by Zack Snyder, and produced by Emma Thomas, Deborah Snyder, Charles Roven, and Christopher Nolan.
Till now the role of 'Superman' has been played by many actors like George Reeves, Brandon Routh, Dean Cain and Christopher Reeves.
Brandon Routh portrayed the superhero in 2006 release 'Superman Returns' which was not as successful as expected.
About Cavill as actor
The 27-years-old actor was a part of the cast of HBO’s, 'The Tudors' where he portrayed the character of Charles Brandon. He will now be featuring in the big screen flick, 'The Immortals.'
Earlier, the actor had narrowly missed the chance of featuring in the ‘Superman Returns.'
The actor had also auditioned for the lead role in 'Batman Begins’ in 2005 but lost to co-British actor, Christopher Bale.

So far almost all the superheroes have been British actors, including Cavill.
These include Christian Bale, who acted as Batman and Andrew Garfield who played 'Spiderman.' Though Garfield was born in the United States, he has been raised in UK.
