Obama lauds Jobs' success as good example of American dream

Obama said that Steve with his revolutionary products has become rich. It is the right incentive of his innovativeness and suits the free market.

President Barack Obama has selected Apple’s Steve Jobs as a good example of someone who strives hard to achieve the American dream with the help of his revolutionary products and in the process earns his wealth.

The president said this in reply to a question posed by Mark Knoller, a CBS reporter, while participating in a debate about the extension in the Bush tax cuts.

Bush tax cuts provide for tax exemptions for wealthy Americans and are widely criticized by Democrats for the support they get in the form of an extension from the President Obama.

The President has been defending this extension as a means to ensure the growth of the economy.

President praises Jobs
Knoller asked the President about the divide between the wealthy and those belonging to middle class. In his reply, Obama acknowledged that today America’s wealthiest 1 percent people hold more wealth as compared to the rest of the population.

The transcript of the press conference released by the White House said that the president said these are only facts and not the feelings of the Democratic Party.

It even added that everybody should, “have a shot at the American dream.” Obama urged all Americans to try to realize the American dream and become successful and wealthy.

Obama gave the example of Steve Jobs at this juncture. He said that Steve with his revolutionary products has become rich. It is the right incentive of his innovativeness and suits the free market.

President met Steve Jobs in October, this year when they discussed the economy while emphasizing on technology, innovation and education.

Obama also discussed about the meeting he had with the top 20 CEO’s of the country on Dec. 16. At that time, he met Eric Schmidt of Google and Paul Otellini of Intel.

President in touch with industry leaders
The White House has said at that time Obama was eager to talk to Jobs.

White House Press secretary had said after the meeting, “They discussed American competitiveness and education, especially reforms such as the president’s race to the Top initiative. They then talked about energy independence and ways to increase job creation.”

Steve was well aware of the significant opportunity to impress the President and it seems that he has used the occasion well.

Obama also discussed about the meeting he had with the top 20 CEO’s of the country on Dec. 16. At that time, he met Eric Schmidt of Google and Paul Otellini of Intel.

“All of us have to be in a conversation with the private sector about what’s going to ensure that we export and sell our products instead of just buying exports from someplace else,” said the President.
