On Saturday, Director Matthew Wilder announced that Lindsay would no longer play the role, and instead Malin Akerman will take over the role of Linda Lovelace in 'Inferno.'
Lindsay Lohan is no longer attached to 'Inferno,' a biography of the late porn star, Linda Lovelace. The troubled actress was supposed to play lead role of 1970s famed porn star in the movie, according to online media reports.
Lohan, who has constantly been in the news for her disorderly lifestyle, has struggled to land work in Hollywood since her days as Disney's golden girl.
Earlier this year, reports emerged saying that the 24-year-old actress is set to return to the big screen to play porn star Linda Lovelace.
LiLo will not play porn star
But, LiLo’s acting career seemingly is not set to return to track anytime soon.
Wilder then confirmed Lindsay is being replaced by 32-year-old actress Malin Akerman, best known for her roles in 'Watchmen' and 'The Heartbreak Kid.'
The makers of the upcoming movie 'Inferno' reportedly have parted ways with the actress.
On Saturday, Director Matthew Wilder announced that Lindsay would no longer play the role, and instead Malin Akerman will take over the role of Linda Lovelace in 'Inferno,' report several entertainment and celebrity news websites, including E! News, UsMagazine and People.com.
"We are withdrawing our offer from Lindsay Lohan. We are currently in negotiations [with another actress] and working out the legalities of bringing her on board," Wilder told E!
"We have stuck by Lindsay very patiently for a long time with a lot of love and support," he said. "Ultimately, the impossibility of insuring her -- and some other issues -- have made it impossible for us to go forward."
Malin will take on the role
Wilder then confirmed Lindsay is being replaced by 32-year-old actress Malin Akerman, best known for her roles in 'Watchmen' and 'The Heartbreak Kid.'
"We are so honored to have Malin and know that she will kill it," he wrote on Facebook, as per UsMagazine.
"Malin was passionate to take this challenge of the role to task and we feel she has the talent to meet that challenge," People quoted the film's producer, Chris Hanley as saying.
Dumped, quit or mutual decision?
While some reports claim LiLo is dumped by the makers of the movie, sources close to the actress claim she quit the project. But her rep is saying that the decision was "mutual."
The 'Mean Girls' star is being treated at a substance abuse treatment center affiliated with the Betty Ford Centre in Rancho Mirage, California. She is ordered to remain in rehab until at least Jan. 3 under the terms of her probation.
Her rep told E! News that the decision to quit the movie and replace LiLo in the film was "mutual", so the Hollywood starlet could continue with her court-ordered rehab treatment.
"Lindsay is dedicated to her recovery and together they decided to move forward without her," the rep said.
Also, a source close to the actress told E! that she wasn't happy with the direction of the movie.
"She wanted them to tone down a lot of the racy scenes", the source said. "It wasn't going to be good for her to play someone with substance issues when she is going through her own recovery."
LiLo’s troubled career
Lindsay, whose life and career have nosedived in recent years, has had a rough time lately.
The drama-riddled actress has previously been dropped from movie ‘The Other Side’, as the filmmakers feared she was not dependable enough.
Her last big hit in which she took a leading role was 2004’s movie 'Mean Girls,' and she has not appeared on the big screen since 2007’s ‘I Know Who Killed Me.’
