Justin Bieber dominated this year's American Music Awards, taking home four big music prizes last night. The Canadian singing sensation was the biggest winner at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California, where he beat out such veteran artists like Eminem, Lady Gaga and Usher.

Bieber won in all four categories he was nominated for. He won the coveted crown of artist of the year, and also clinched awards for the favorite pop/rock album, breakthrough artist and favorite male pop artist.

Bieber high on success
Bieber graciously shared his winning moment with Usher, who had helped sign the young singer and has been his mentor. The 16-year-old gave several shout-outs throughout the night, and also remembered legendary late pop singer Michael Jackson.

“This means the world to me. I come from the smallest town in the world, of like 30,000 people; I never thought this was possible,” he gushed, before paying tribute to the late King of Pop. “I want to thank Michael Jackson, because without Michael Jackson none of us would be here.”

It was emotional. I don't cry that often, but I did. Hopefully it gives an indication of how hard we worked to build a career that hopefully will flourish and blossom over the years. – Usher

The star of the night then divided the rest of his time between getting clicked and meeting up with other stars, including the newly weds Russell Brand and Katy Perry, and superstar siblings Jaden and Willow Smith.

Usher emotional over Bieber’s success
Bieber’s friend and mentor Usher was also all emotional about the young singer’s big victory. “To see Justin take the award - having received that award before - it was like an out of body experience, you understand?” Usher, the winner of two other awards, said backstage.

“It was emotional. I don't cry that often, but I did. Hopefully it gives an indication of how hard we worked to build a career that hopefully will flourish and blossom over the years.”

Pink, Rihanna, Black Eyed Peas and Kid Rock also treated the audience to some nice performances.

Backstreet Boys chipped in with old favorites like ‘Everybody (Backstreet's Back)’, ‘I Want It That Way’, and ‘Larger Than Life’ and New Kids on The Block rolled out ‘Step By Step,’ and ‘You Got It (The Right Stuff.)’

Eminem, who has recently got back on the track, was nominated for five awards tying him with Lady Antebellum, who also enjoyed a successful year with near triple-platinum album Need You Now.
