Anuradha Koirala named CNN Hero of the Year 2010

Koirala is also helping HIV sufferers find a home where they can spend their remaining days peacefully.

Anuradha Koirala, a woman who has helped almost 12000 women and girls find their way out from sex slavery, has been chosen as the CNN Hero of the Year 2010.

The results were revealed on the fourth annual 'CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute' by CNN's Anderson Cooper after an online public poll that ran for eight weeks on CNN.com.

According to Koirala, human trafficking is a shameful crime, accounting for the worst punishment ever.

"Human trafficking is a crime, a heinous crime, a shame to humanity," Koirala said after being introduced as one of the top 10 CNN Heroes of 2010. "I ask everyone to join me to create a society free of trafficking. We need to do this for all our daughters."

Koirala will receive a sum of $100000 to extend work through her foundation Maiti Nepal, while the other 10 heroes would be given $25000 each.

Introduced by Moore
Koirala was introduced to this field in the year 1993 by actress Demi Moore.

Moore, accompanied by husband Ashton Kutcher, founded DNA, the Demi and Ashton Foundation.

DNA has been working extensively to eliminate child sex slavery worldwide and provide a home to those women who are rescued by the organization.

"Every day this woman confronts the worst of what humanity has to offer," Moore said of Koirala. "She says, 'Stop. Stop selling our girls.' By raiding brothels and patrolling the India-Nepal border, she saves girls from being sold into the sex trade, where they are being repeatedly raped for profit, tortured and enslaved.

Koirala, through her own foundation Maiti Nepal, has been helping such women and kids to go to school, find work or learn a skill.

She is also helping HIV sufferers find a home where they can spend their remaining days peacefully.

Koirala will receive a sum of $100000 to extend work through her foundation Maiti Nepal, while the other 10 heroes would be given $25000 each.
