According to CNN television affiliate KTVK, the 39-year-old rap star was allegedly using drugs, including cocaine and OxyContin, the latter without a prescription.
Rapper DMX is behind bars again! The embattled rapper was arrested in Phoenix, Arizona on Thursday on suspicion of parole violation, according to multiple U.S. tabloid reports.
DMX, real name Earl Simmons, has been arrested on five separate occasions after August 2007.
His most recent came in July, stemming from a probation violation on a reckless driving conviction in 2002. The rapper was released in August after serving mere 18 days of a 90-day sentence.
DMX falls in hot soup again
The hip-hop star is in trouble with the law again. He was arrested by Maricopa County probation officers on Thursday on one count of violating his probation by using drugs, and failing to check in with his probation officer, the tabloid reports say.
According to CNN television affiliate KTVK, the 39-year-old rap star was allegedly using drugs, including cocaine and OxyContin, the latter without a prescription.
DMX’s manager Nakia Walker confirmed MTV News on Friday that the rapper is being held without bail in the county jail.
Probation infringement
Citing a report by Reuters, ABC News is reporting that court documents released Friday allege that the gravel-voiced performer was arrested on suspicion of seven probation violations, including illegal possession of the drug Oxycontin, failing to submit to drug testing and counseling programs and driving with a suspended license.
"Mr. Simmons has several felony convictions, and has been given multiple opportunities to succeed on probation," read the court papers. "He has been directed to treatment, as well as chose his own treatment program, and continues to use illegal drugs following these opportunities."
Not following rules
Meanwhile, DMX’s manager Nakia Walker confirmed MTV News on Friday that the rapper is being held without bail in the county jail.
"He just didn't check in with his probation officer, and it's just a matter of him not following the rules," Walker said.
When asked why the rap star was arrested, Walker said: "Because he's not perfect. This is a difficult time in his life. He's going through some things. ... Sh-- happens. I can't tell you why he makes the decisions to do the things that he does. Other than that, there's no real excuse for it. When you don't follow the rules, there's consequences."
Arrest was expected
Glenn Allen, an attorney for the rap star, also confirmed the arrest to The Associated Press, saying he had been working with his client and probation officials and expected the arrest.
"It is very frustrating that the probation department would time it in such a way to violate Mr. Simmons right before the holiday and just a few weeks shy of the termination date of the probation," Allen said in an e-mail to the AP. "Mr. Simmons has been working very hard and will overcome this setback."
DMX has been ordered to attend a probation-revocation hearing on Nov. 24.
If convicted, it would mark his sixth arrest in Maricopa County, and his third in 2010.
DMX’s past run ins with the law
DMX, whose albums include ‘...And then There was X’ and who starred in the movies ‘Romeo Must Die’ and ‘Cradle 2 The Grave’, has been arrested five times in Arizona on charges ranging from drug possession, identity theft to animal cruelty.
One of the most commercially successful rappers of all-time, DMX has been arrested by Maricopa County authorities five times, including an August 2007 raid on his north Phoenix home where they found several malnourished dogs as well as several dog carcasses.
Guns, ammunition and drug paraphernalia were also found by authorities during the raid.
