Rapper Wiz Khalifa arrested on marijuana charges

The "Black and Yellow" rapper was taken into custody after police officers raided his tour bus while he was performing on stage and found marijuana.

Rapper Wiz Khalifa was arrested in North Carolina Monday night on drug charges following a concert, according to multiple online published reports.

The Pittsburgh rap star, whose real name is Cameron Thomaz, was forced off stage at a show in North Carolina on Monday night and arrested by local police on suspicion of drug possession.

The 22-year-old artist performed Monday night at East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C., and was arrested early Tuesday morning by campus officers after the show, reports CBS affiliate WNCT.

According to MTV News, the "Black and Yellow" rapper was taken into custody after police officers raided his tour bus while he was performing on stage and found marijuana.

Khalifa was booked into the jail at around 1:30 a.m. He was placed in Pitt County Detention Center where after posting $300,000 bail he was released at around 8 a.m. ET, according to MTV.

The rapper, who was appearing on the campus as part of his "Waken Baken Tour 2010," has boasted in a recent interview about smoking $10,000 worth of weed per month and recently launched his own line of rolling papers, the website says.

Charged with multiple marijuana violations
The young hip-hop star was charged with multiple marijuana violations, including a felony count of trafficking marijuana, a felony count of maintaining a dwelling/vehicle/place for sale or storage of marijuana and one misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Khalifa, who was recently named MTV's Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010, may have tipped the cops off by tweeting. "Smoke outs Greeneville, nc tonight. Fall thru wit ur finest plant life," he wrote on his Twitter page just hours before his arrest, according to MTV.

Born in 1987 in Minot, ND, Khalifa released his debut album, Show and Prove, in 2006, and signed to Warner Bros. Records in 2007.

He parted with Warner Bros. and released his second album, Deal or No Deal, in November 2009.

The rap star released his latest single, "Black and Yellow," in September and recently signed a multi-album deal with Atlantic Records.

In July, Khalifa was named the "Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010" in an MTV News readers' poll in which more than 200,000 fans voted, beating out J. Cole, Nicki Minaj, Travis Porter and Diggy Simmons.
