Microsoft to launch new series of smartphones

Presently Microsoft has just 5 percent share in the smart phone market worldwide as compared to the 9 percent last year.

With an aim to gain a large share in the market share captured by Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Android operating system phones, Microsoft is gearing up to launch a new series of mobiles supporting its Windows operating system.

These new phones is being manufacture by leading hand set manufacturers including, Samsung, LG and HTC are touted by many as the future of computers

The new phones will initially be available on AT&T’s network. Prototypes shown by the company reveal that these phones are a lot similar to Apple’s iPhone with multi colour touch screens and tiles for browsing through menus.


This move by Microsoft is being termed by many market analysts as the last opportunity to get closer to its rivals. The software giant is also hoping that these phones will reconsolidate its position in the market for mobiles.

Presently, Microsoft has just 5 percent share in the smart phone market worldwide as compared to the 9 percent last year.

In comparison Google’s Android system jumped 17 percent from 2 percent in 2009.

Microsoft is striving hard to establish itself in the mobile computing market, especially in the wake of a downfall of nearly 20 percent in the prices of its shares this year. The prices of company’s shares are the same as they were eight years ago.

Smartphones becoming increasingly popular
Smartphones allow the users to access e-mail, surf the net and a host of other activities like reaching out to music, videos and games of your choice from your mobile.

It is estimated that the market for smart phones will expand at a very fast pace in the coming years.

It is also anticipated that almost 270 million smart phones will be be sold throughout the world. This is an increase of 56 percent from the last year.

Microsoft is striving hard to establish itself in the mobile computing market, especially in the wake of a downfall of nearly 20 percent in the prices of its shares this year. The prices of company’s shares are the same as they were eight years ago.

Position in the market
The new phones to be launched by Microsoft are bound to face stiff competition from the rivals who are coming up with latest models at low prices.

At present Microsoft holds the third position in terms of global market share. Symbian, which powers Nokia’s smart phones is a leader followed by research in Motion with its BlackBerry.

Apple, though most talked about, is at the fifth position, but is rapidly climbing up in terms of sales and is being viewed as a serious threat by other contenders.
