Wife accuses ex-baseball great Roberto Alomar of exposing her to HIV

Former baseball great’s wife Maria Del Pilar Rivera claims in divorce papers that Alomar had unprotected sex with her despite knowing he was HIV-positive

Former New York Mets star Roberto Alomar has landed himself in legal trouble again. He is being sued by his wife for allegedly having unprotected sex with her.

The 42-year-old former baseball great’s wife Maria Del Pilar Rivera claims in divorce papers that Alomar had unprotected sex with her despite knowing he was HIV-positive, the New York Post reported Thursday.

Another scandal surrounding Alomar
Maria's charges are similar to allegations made in a lawsuit last year against the player by a former girlfriend named Ilya Dall. She accused Alomar of having unprotected sex with her over the course of four years.

She claimed Alomar had encouraged her to keep having unprotected sex with him while knowingly carrying the full-blown virus.

In her February 2009 lawsuit, Dall sought $15 million from Alomar, and the case was eventually settled last May.

In the court papers, filed for divorce in Florida, Rivera claims her husband "intentionally, with corrupt intent, concealed from [her] his physical condition" in order to get her to have unprotected sex with him

Rivera, who was then Alomar's girlfriend, defended him at the time, branding Dall's lawsuit "a vile lie."

Alomar kept his disease secret from wife
Now, the 33-year-old Rivera has filed the similar lawsuit against Alomar, accusing the former Orioles great and Mets goat of having unprotected sex with her even though he's HIV-positive.

In the court papers, filed for divorce in Florida, Rivera claims her husband "intentionally, with corrupt intent, concealed from [her] his physical condition" in order to get her to have unprotected sex with him, reports the Post.

Rivera discovered the truth after marriage
The explosive filing states: “Prior to the marriage he said he had been tested for sexually transmitted disease and the tests were negative,” and that Rivera discovered the truth at some point after their marriage and this caused her “extreme emotional distress, fear and mental anguish.”

Although, she has "not contracted the virus to date but uncertainty still exists due to the delay in the onset of the virus," the filing further states.

Alomar denied having HIV in the past
In an interview late last year with the Post, Alomar denied being HIV-positive.

“I don’t talk about my personal life, but I don’t have that disease. I would never do that to another person,” he said at the time, adding that he would not have gotten married if he had the virus. "I would never do that to another person."
