‘The Social Network’ premieres amid hype, controversy and anticipation

In the film, Zuckerberg has been portrayed as back-stabbing, arrogant, intelligent college-goer, who hates to mix up with real people. He, and his friends end up inventing social networking site, which accidentally makes them billionaires.

Film titled ‘The Social Network,' allegedly based on the real-life events of Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg, premiered on Friday at the New York Film Festival amid hype, controversy and anticipation. The film is scheduled for release on Oct. 1.

The highly-anticipated film is directed by famous Hollywood director David Fincher and story is written by Aaron Sorkin, best known for his TV shows like ‘The West Wing’ and ‘A Few Good Men.’

Sorkin adapted the screenplay from Ben Mezrick’s book on Facebook founders titled 'The Accidental Billionaires--The Founding of Facebook, A Tale of Sex, Money, Genius and Betrayal.'

Though, Fincher avoided commenting on whether the story is fact/fiction, but writer of the script Sorkin, did not hesitate to take on the question.

"This movie is absolutely a true story, but with the catch that people disagree about what the truth was and the movie takes no position on what the truth is. It presents everybody's story," said Sorkin in one of his interviews.

The film features Jesse Eisenberg (as Mark Zuckerberg), Justin Timberlake (as Napster creator and internet wunderkind Sean Parker), Andrew Garfield (as Facebook CFO Saverin), Rooney Mara), Max Minghella, and Rashida Jones.

About film and Zuckerberg’s reaction
‘The Social Network’ is a rags-to-riches story of a Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg, who until the invention social networking site, was nothing more than a socially awkward Harvard University student.

"This movie is absolutely a true story, but with the catch that people disagree about what the truth was and the movie takes no position on what the truth is. It presents everybody's story," said writer Aaron Sorkin in one of his interviews.

In the film, Zuckerberg has been portrayed as back-stabbing, arrogant, intelligent college-goer, who hates to mix up with real people. He, and his friends end up inventing social networking site, which accidentally makes them billionaires.

The 26-year-old Zuckerberg, who’s now worth around $6.9 billion, as per Forbes magazine, had stayed far away from the book written on his alleged life by Mezrich.

And this time around too, he’s trying his utmost best to stay unaffected by the film.

He recently, made his stance on the film clear on Oprah Winfrey’s chat show by saying “It’s a movie, it’s fun.”

As per speculations, Zuckerberg announced $100 million donation to Newark, New Jersey schools on Friday, to deflect media attention set on him due to film’s premier on the very same day.

No Facebook users!
After the premier of the movie, star cast of the film along with director and writer attended a press conference, where they revealed about how much they know about the whole Facebook thing.

Fincher revealed having a glimpse “of the website over someone’s shoulder once,” while Sorkin set his account only for three months all for research sake, which he later canceled.

Timberlake does not have any; Eisenberg opened it for a month while Garfield still has his account up and running since last three months.
