Hasselhoff did not seem worried about the elimination, but was concerned about partner Kym, as he said that she had worked really hard and was very talented dancer.
The first elimination of the season 11 of the dance reality show ‘Dancing With the Stars’ (DWTS) has been revealed. David Hasselhoff and his partner Kym Johnson got the boot in the first round.
While announcing the elimination on Tuesday’s results show on ABC, DWTS host Tom Bergeron said, “Your votes have been tallied and the identity of the star, who is going to be eliminated surprised even our producers.”
"It's going to be quite a shock," co-host Brooke Burke added.
'Baywatch' star David Hasselhoff and his dancing partner Kym Johnson had performed the ‘cha cha cha’ on ‘Sex Bomb’ and earned only 15 points, out of 30.
The elimination came as a shocker, as Judge Carrie Ann Inaba called Hasselhoff the child of 'Donny Osmond and Jerry Springer,' while Len Goodman said, “It’s never too early to panic.” Even Bruno Tonioli described Hasselhoff’s performance as “madness.”
Unexpected elimination
Executive producer of DWTS, Conrad Green was very disappointed on hearing the results of round one of the season 11 of the reality show.
Talking about his exit from the show, Hasselhoff said, “I knew going into this that when you are David Hasselhoff and you live this larger-than-life persona, then everyone is kind of gunning for you."
He said, “I’m really sad to see David go. Of all of the people in the cast, it’s a real surprise for us because he is such a brilliant character. I thought his routine was really entertaining. I understand from the judges’ purist dance point-of-view, it might not have been technically the best dance.”
“But it’s the one that made me laugh the most and I enjoyed it. Personally, I watch more for the entertainment than anything else. I like good old-fashioned entertainment shows because you never know what’s coming. From that point of view, David had one of the best dances of the night,” he remarked.
Hasselhoff talks about exit
Hasselhoff did not seem worried about the elimination, but was concerned about partner Kym, as he said that she had worked really hard and was very talented dancer.
Talking about his exit from the show, he said, “I knew going into this that when you are David Hasselhoff and you live this larger-than-life persona, then everyone is kind of gunning for you.”
“I knew that I had to kind of get past the judges, and I did every thing I could to go on technique. Two days before (premiere night), I had it down. I was so happy because my body came around. But premiere night, it just wouldn’t work like it hoped,” he added.
Others gear up for next week
After Hasselhoff’s exit, the others have turned their attention to next week, where half the group will be performing the quickstep and other half will be doing the jive.
Sarah Palin’s daughter, Bristol Palin said, “Flying to Alaska takes a long time, so we're going to have that against us.”
Her dancing partner Mark Ballas kidded, “We're going to be dancing in the aisles of the plane.”
The remaining contestants on DWTS are Brandy, Jennifer Grey, Florence Henderson, Kyle Massey, Rick Fox, Audrina Patridge, Michael Bolton, Mike "The situation" Sorrentino, Bristol Palin, Kurt Warner and Margaret Cho.
