Willow Smith signs record deal; considered competition for Rihanna

Music enthusiasts find her voice very similar to Rihanna, and some have even predicted that this pint-sized power-pack is potential competition for the Barbadian R&B star.

Will Smith’s little daughter is being hailed as a star of the future. After setting the web world ablaze with her first single ‘Whip My Hair,’ the 9-year-old Willow won global approbation and has already been signed up by rapper Jay-Z's label Roc Nation.

Music enthusiasts find her voice very similar to Rihanna, and some have even predicted that this pint-sized power-pack is potential competition for the Barbadian R&B star.

Soon-to-be superstar
Speaking US radio host Ryan Seacrest, Jay-Z said he thought she would be a “superstar.”

“I heard the record first before I knew it was recorded by a nine-year-old and I was like, 'man that record's a smash',” said the famed rapper.

Jay-Z is not the only celeb to have taken notice of Willow’s singing talent. It seems she already has fans in some prestigious names.

The daughter of Hollywood A-listers Will and Jada Pinkett Smith has already received more than a million hits on her video posted on Youtube, in which she tells the ladies to snap their heads “back and forth” and whip that hair like a helicopter.

Willow – the young Michael Jackson?
Willow has “an energy and enthusiasm about her music that is truly infectious,” Roc Nation said in a statement. The company is very positive about having signed a record deal with Willow, as they say, it is “rare to find an artist with such innate talent and creativity at such a young age.”

Jay-Z went on to compare the little singer to the young Michael Jackson, and said, “She has a child's innocence but she has a clear vision of who she is and who she wants to be.”

Also, he negated the suggestions that Willow might be too young to embark on music career. “When you have that sort of talent, there is no such thing as too young,” the rapper said.

Little Willow’s big fans
Jay-Z is not the only celeb to have taken notice of Willow’s singing talent. It seems she already has fans in some prestigious names.

“WHAT!!??! Willow Smith just KILLED "Whip My Hair"... Rihanna, Keri, Ciara, Ashanti - please be warned,” tweeted Justin Bieber's video director Alfredo Flores.

Solange Knowles also tweeted support for the girl, writing, “Willow Smith make me wanna whip some haiiirrr in this house. Ummm kill em girl. Kill em!”

Brandy too joined in to say, “I whip my hair back and forth... Ms Willow is not to be played with!!”

Willow made her show-biz debut back in 2007, when she appeared in ‘I Am Legend’ with her father.

Her elder brother, 12-year-old Jaden Smith, starred in the successful remake of ‘The Karate Kid’ and has also worked alongside Justin Bieber. Talent, it seems, runs in Smith family.
