Douglas' struggle against cancer agonizing to Zeta-Jones

The Oscar winning actor had spend months seeking treatment for severe throat and ear pain. Only in August, the doctors diagnosed Douglas' stage 4 oropharyngeal cancer, which has understandably fumed Zeta-Jones.

In an interview to People magazine Friday, the Welsh actress stated, “It makes me furious they didn't detect it earlier. He sought every option and nothing was found."

So much is the agony that Zeta-Jones does not have the courage to accompany Douglas for his regular chemotherapy and radiation treatment sessions.

"The hardest part is seeing his fatigue because Michael is never tired," the emotional 40-year-old told the magazine, adding, “I’m 25 years younger than him and he wears me out.”

Cause of cancer, its severity
The cause behind the throat cancer is not a secret. In fact, in the recent CBS’s talk show ‘Late Show with David Letterman,' divulged that his cancer is due to smoking and alcohol consumption.

'I smoked cigarettes and drank,' confessed the legendary actor, who is undergoing eight weeks of treatment, to talk show host David Letterman.

Douglas' lifestyle habits may have caused the disease, but Zeta-Jones believes that “brutal” setbacks to her hubby over the last year has worsened Michael's cancer.

To illustrate, in April this year, his son Cameron Douglas, from former wife Diandra, was sentenced to five years in jail for drug trafficking.

Then in August, Michael ex-wife filed a lawsuit, seeking half the money and royalties he receives from his upcoming movie 'Wall Street: Money Never Dies,' scheduled to release this month.

Also, his father Kirk Douglas is not keeping very well.

With the legendary actor's declaration that he is fighting against life-threatening tumor, many of his fans took to blogs and forums wishing Douglas a speedy recovery.

“Best of luck to Michael Douglas on his throat cancer. We all wish for a quick recovery. All our prayers go out to Michael Douglas.” stated a fan named Luigi on catherinezjones.com.

Confident that 'The Jewel of the Nile,' actor will fight back the disease, another fan named SoCalPete took to Twitter stating, “He comes from a tough gene pool,” adding that he will be in the pink of health soon.

Even Douglas' close friend American actress Melissa Gilbert tweeted, “Candles are lit and prayers are being said for a quick and complete recovery for my friend Michael Douglas. My thoughts are with his family as they face a tough but winnable battle. Prayers please my tweethearts.”
