Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream grabs top spot at Billboard 200 albums chart

Katy Perry's 'Teenage Dream' rules at No. 1 at the Billboard 200 chart

Sitting at top of the Billboard 200 albums chart is Katy Perry’s ‘Teenage Dream’, with more than 192,000 copies of her second album being sold in the very first week.

Perry’s album has brought at end to the reign of Eminem’s ‘Recovery’ at the Billboard number one, who has been holding the position since the last seven weeks. Selling so many copies in the opening week itself is a major achievement for the singing sensation, whose first label ‘One of the Boys’ sold only 47,000 copies in its first week.

“I consider ‘Teenage Dream’ to be the logical continuation of my first album. I don't think people want me to be anyone other than myself,” Katy Perry informed.

“This record is at least as important, if not more, than the first because it will show, whether my success was due to luck, which I absolutely do not believe," the 25-year-old star stated.

Neilson SoundScan has provided statistics that indicate that Eminem has also been bested by ‘American Idol’ Fantasia, whose ‘Back to Me’ has taken the second spot at the Billboard chart and has sold 117,000 copies. Eminem now sits on number 3, with sale of 98,000 copies.

Other new entries in the top ten slots comprise of Usher’s ‘Venus’ with sale of 46,000 copies, Little Big Town's The Reason Why (42,000), the Randy Rogers Band's ‘Burning the Day’ (29,000) and the Devil Wears Prada’s ‘Zombie’ (25,000).

Perry reigns on iTunes too
On the iTunes singles and albums charts also Perry takes a lead, while Eminem is positioned at number 2. The other major spots are filled by the Rogers Band, Fantasia, Mumford & Sons' Sigh No More, Usher's Versus, Stevens, Never Shout Never's Harmony, LaMontagne and the Devil Wears Prada.

The analysts are assuming that Perry will have a difficulty in remaining on top, as giving her tough competition next week, would be latest offerings from Disturbed, the Goo Goo Dolls, Fabolous, Papa Roach and Lyfe Jennings.

Katy Perry to judge ‘The X Factor’

Reports are in that Simon Cowell has set a deal with Katy Perry to judge the US edition of ‘The X Factor’ for 480,000 New Zealand dollars per show.

Perry was a guest judge at the original British series’ Dublin audition and Cowell was so impressed by her comic remarks that he contacted her for the American version of the show.

"Simon wants to get the judging names signed, sealed and announced within six weeks. He wants at least one massive American star, someone who is known globally, plus one Brit and at least one authoritative male," a source revealed.

"Katy was thrilled, especially by the package. She has agreed to meet Simon and studio bosses in the States this autumn to see if something can be done,” the insider added.
