Former co-actors and 'Friends,' Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox would be re-uniting for the popular American sitcom 'Cougar Town' season 2, which premieres on Sept. 22, ABC said Monday.
Reportedly, the actress will play a therapist giving advice to Cox's character, a divorced middle aged woman, inclined on dating younger men.
Aniston, 41, had reunited with Cox, also her real-life best friend, on TV series, 'Dirt,' in 2007.
The two ladies struck a close chord when they starred together on the hit NBC comedy 'Friends' from 1994 to 2004, and since then “have been great friends.”
Aniston to play Cox's shrink
Confirming the news, 'Cougar Town' executive producer, Bill Lawrence told Entertainment Weekly that Cox wanted to establish the show before proposing the deal to Aniston.
“She’s going to play Courteney’s shrink named Bonnie,” revealed Lawrence referring to Cox’s character, Jules.
“Kind of a get-too-involved-in-her-life-type of therapist. Those guys are so close in real life they kind of do that for each other anyway. Bonnie has the life Jules wishes she has.”
Industry sources suggest that Channel Seven had pulled 'Cougar Town' from its schedule in April this year after its ratings plummeted from 1.4 million to just 626,000 viewers.
“It took us a while to find the show,” acknowledged Lawrence. “And once we did and once it was clicking, I think that not only did Courteney feel comfortable talking to Jen about doing it, but comfortable in how funny she thinks the show is and that Jen would like it and fit into this world really well.”
The two ladies struck a close chord when they starred together on the hit NBC comedy 'Friends' from 1994 to 2004, and since then “have been great friends.”
“It starts and ends with Courteney and Jennifer being really great friends and excited to work together again—especially doing comedy together,” Lawrence added.
“Every day that those two talk they have more ideas about [the role]. It’s definitely something they’re both involved in creatively.”
In fact, the producer hinted that Aniston's role in the show “might not just be one-time-thing.”
Last season, Cox had persuaded Lisa Kudrow to play a mean dermatologist who briefly dates Cox's character, Jules ex-husband, Bobby.
Not only Lisa Kudrow, but Sheryl Crow, and Barry Bostwick too have made guest appearances on the show earlier.
