Singer Fantasia Barrino admits she tried to kill herself

Barrino opened up about the incident in an interview for an upcoming VH1 Behind The Music special, admitting she wanted to die

Former 'American Idol' champ Fantasia Barrino, who earlier this month was hospitalized for overdosing on aspirin and a sleep aid, has finally opened about her recent overdose- admitting she wanted to die.

So far, it’s been a rough week for season-three 'Idol' winner Barrino. She was recently at the centre of a scandal after a North Carolina woman alleged that her husband had an illicit affair and made a sex tape with the singer.

Barrino is now being threatened with a lawsuit by Paula Cook, the wife of Antwaun Cook, with whom Fantasia had been having an illicit affair.

Hours after learning that she was named in Cook’s court filing, the devastated Barrino was rushed to a hospital after what police had called at the time a suicide attempt by overdosing on aspirin and a sleep aid.

Singer goes in-depth about her overdosing
Now, the 26-year-old singer said that her overdose two weeks ago was no accident, instead she was fully aware of what she was doing, according to People.com.

According to the popular celebrity magazine’s website, Barrino opened up about the incident in an interview for an upcoming VH1 Behind The Music special.

Now, the 26-year-old singer said that her overdose two weeks ago was no accident, instead she was fully aware of what she was doing, according to People.com.

"I didn't have any fight in me. I didn't care about anything. I just wanted out," the singer tells VH1 in a new Behind the Music interview, airing 9 p.m. ET/PT Tuesday, according to People. "At that moment, I wanted out. I wanted it to be over with – all of it, all of that [expletive]."

She continues: "I just sat in the closet and looked at the mirror and took all the pills in the bottle. I wanted to go to sleep and just be at peace. I knew exactly what I was doing. You can't accidentally take a whole bottle of pills."

Why she tried to kill herself?
What led Barrino, an eight-time Grammy nominee, to end her life?

"I was tired of people doing me wrong, constantly, over and over again, dealing with my family – my father, dealing with men and their [expletive] – I was tired. My head was hurting me. I was over it," she says.

"I knew exactly what I was doing. You can't accidentally take a whole bottle of pills."

Nurse came as an inspirational figure to the singer
According to People, Barrino says it was her nurse who inspired her at the time of need.

"My nurse Melanie was a blessing into my life because she didn't tell me what I wanted to hear," she says. "She told me what I needed to hear. And she looked at me and said, 'You gotta get up, and you've gotta get out of here, 'cause you haven't fulfilled your destiny.' I realized how people end up in the grave. Because that one moment of just breaking or feeling like ‘I can't, I can't go on, it's too heavy.’”

On her relationship with Cook
During the interview, Barrino also talks about her alleged relationship with Cook, a married father of two, reports the magazine.

"When I met him, he was separated ... [he] wasn't living in his home,” she explains. “He didn't want to be back with his wife -- that is what I was told. I remember waking up in the hospital [and thinking to myself], 'It didn't work, I'm still here in this hellhole. Still here with all this drama going on.'"

"I realized how people end up in the grave. Because that one moment [snaps her fingers] of just breaking or feeling like I can't, I can't go on, it's too heavy. That was somewhere I don't ever want to go again."
