Verizon likely to get 29% mobile customers with iPhone release--survey

AT&T's 47 percent current iPhone users said they "would consider" a switch to Verizon when it will be available there.

As per a new survey report by the market research firm Morpace, 29 percent of customers from all carriers (including AT&T) are ready to switch over to Verizon Wireless network when Apple’s popular iPhone joins the network carrier early next year.

For the research, Morpace surveyed 1,000 consumers belonging to various carriers. The majority (51 percent) of customers who are most likely to buy an iPhone are Verizon’s existing customers.

Report noted that 23 percent of AT&T subscribers; 22 percent of Sprint and 20 percent T-Mobile customers showed interest in switching over to Verizon when it ties up with iPhone.

Verizon iPhone to hurt Android sales?
In its survey report Morpace stated that Verizon may not only walk away with half of AT&T customers if iPhone is offered on its network, but iPhone’s arrival on the Verizon’s network could also hurt sales of Android.

For the research, Morpace surveyed 1,000 consumers belonging to various carriers. The majority (51 percent) of customers who are most likely to buy an iPhone are Verizon’s existing customers.

"The impact on other Verizon smart phones that have not previously had to compete directly with the iPhone may be significant if Verizon begins to carry the iPhone. It could drastically impact the purchase of other phones,” noted Morpace in its survey report.

It also highlighted that Android has experienced growth so far as it was not in direct competition with Apple’s popular device iPhone.

The report also noted that there are "concerns over how the Verizon network will handle the bandwidth demands of iPhone users” when not just new customers but many AT&T ones will also choose the carrier.

Verizon’s iPhone in January 2011?
Speculations are rife that Apple will be heading to Verizon Wireless in January 2011 and it will end its exclusive contract with AT&T in the United States.

According to the sources familiar with the matter, Apple will be upgrading both touch-screen and processor in Verizon’s iPhone. The touch-screen on Verizon’s iPhone could be 3.7-inch with 1.2GHz processor.

The source added that Apple is seriously considering moving iPhone’s antenna inside the device once it ties with Verizon. At present iPhone has external antenna, which many believe is the main reason behind shady reception at times.
