Black bear breaks into car, takes it on a joyride

Early morning on Friday in Larkspur, Colorado, an adult black bear broke into the 2008 Toyota Corolla of a resident named Ralph Story and took the car for a little joyride down hill. A concerned neighbor of Story’s called Douglas County Sherriff’s deputies after hearing continuous honking sounds and noticing commotion inside the vehicle.

Early morning on Friday in Larkspur, Colorado, an adult black bear broke into the 2008 Toyota Corolla of a resident named Ralph Story and took the car for a little joyride down hill.

As per several reports, the black bear got into the car as he wanted to get hold of the peanut butter and jelly sandwich that was left behind in the car by Ralph’s 17-year-old son Ben Story, who normally drives the car.

"He was just looking for something to eat; that's what bears do. Anyone who lives out here knows there's going to be wildlife here. We learn to live with it,” said Sr. Story sportingly about bear’s invasion in his car.

Sr. Story believes that bear might have easily opened the door of the unlocked car, which would have closed behind him, leaving him trapped inside the car.

A concerned neighbor of Story’s called Douglas County Sherriff’s deputies after hearing continuous honking sounds and noticing commotion inside the vehicle.

“Our Toyota was making a heck of a racket and was rocking back and forth,” said Ralph Story.

Bear goes on a ride
After getting the distress call from Story’s neighbor, Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene only to find the car missing.

As per several reports, the black bear got into the car as he wanted to get hold of the peanut butter and jelly sandwich that was left behind in the car by Ralph’s 17-year-old son Ben Story, who normally drives the car.

However, after a brief search, they found the car, with agitated bear inside it, 125 feet down the hill near a tree.

As per CNN, “The bear had either opened the unlocked back door or pushed a window down to get inside. Understandably agitated, it bumped into the horn repeatedly and eventually knocked the car’s gear into neutral.”

Story’s neighbor, who first noticed the commotion in the car around 2.30 a.m., called officials around 45 minutes later.

A sergent and deputies immediately responded to the call and reached the scene suspecting that bunch of kids were goofing around.

Officials extracted bear safely out of the car
After finding the bear trapped inside the car, the officials started to explore their options. They thought about either to tranquilize the bear or to shoot the creature dead.

"Public safety is our primary concern," said an official.

However, they managed to save the bear and people around by tying a rope to the handle of the car door so they would be able to open it from afar.

The moment car door opened, bear took the opportunity to run away into the wood. However, the whole thing left Toyota in shambles.
