Sounds Like Paper Concert 2010: violence mars free NYC concert

In a move that disappointed thousands of rapper Drake, and pop band Hanson fans, the organizers canceled the free New York City concert Tuesday evening.

After more than anticipated people showed up for the concert and crowd safety became a concern, the New York City Police Department scrapped the show, thus annoying thousands who had gathered to get a glimpse of the Canadian rapper and pop group Hanson.

“Wow, the crowd was much larger than we anticipated, and unfortunately the show was cancelled. But we will make it up to you guys,” stated Paper Magazine on Twitter.

Crowd went berserk
The organizers of the show had expected 10,000 people but nearly 25,000 people showed up.

Not only the fans climbed the roof, but they also jostled for a closer positions to the stage, thus becoming unruly and triggering concert cancellation.

Narrating the incident, a fan named Brittany Mendenhall (user name 2Legit2Britt) took to her Twitter feed saying, “CHAOS. People were throwing chairs and s***. Spraying mace. Pulling knives. Kirill and I bounced before all that.”

Another Hanson fan named Alyssa E (username itzalyssa16) tweeted, “Today was crazy!! Im glad I left with my life!”

Drake, Hanson leave without performing
The concert started at around 6:00 p.m. with an performance by Brooklyn DJ Ninjasonik.

Drake was expected to appear soon after to celebrate the release of his latest album 'Thank Me Later,' which debuted this Tuesday. The album is already estimated to have sold thousands of copies in the opening week.

But before the hip-hop artist could get the chance to grab the mic, the organizers lost control over the unruly crowd, thus pulling the plugs on the show.

Regretting the cancellation, Drake stated on the micro blogging site, “I am so dissapointed. To all the devoted fans that came out I wish you could have seen what I had planned! Until next time.”

Even the American pop rock band notified their fans of the chaos at the concert. Wishing that they were able to perform at the event, the band added, “so bummed #soundslikepaper show had to be called off...too many people to be safe! Thank u everybody who came out today.”

'Sounds Like Paper'- a debacle
The concert, scheduled for Tuesday June 15 at South Street Seaport, was supposed to mark the official start of the '2nd Annual Sounds Like Paper Concert Series,' sponsored by Paper Magazine, The Seaport and Ray-Ban.

But the chaos Tuesday night failed to kick start the sunset summer concert.

“Wow, the crowd was much larger than we anticipated, and unfortunately the show was cancelled. But we will make it up to you guys!” stated papermagazine on Twitter.

Meanwhile, the fans continued the blame game, holding other responsible for the unruly behavior.

Blaming the Drake fans, Ayla Schermer commented, “UGH #soundslikepaper was SUCH A FAILURE. Idiotic Drake fans had to ruin what should have been an awesome night for us #Hanson fans.”
