Though Elisabeth could not undo the damage done, she tried to make up with a tearful apology as she told the viewers that “reckless words pierce someone's heart like a sword.”
Elisabeth Hasselbeck was in tears as she expressed regret for insulting ‘Dancing with the Stars’ contestant Erin Andrews on Wednesday's ‘The View.’
Hasselbeck tearfully apologized to Andrews, admitting that she had done wrong in making nasty comments on her appearance.
On Tuesday, the View co-host seemed to have gone way beyond acceptable behavior, as she slammed the ESPN sportscaster for her wardrobe choices. Hasselbeck went to the extent of saying that Andrews gets stalked because of her skimpy clothes.
Hasselbeck’s offensive comment
Commenting on the convicted stalker, who peeped at Andrews through a hotel-room keyhole, and posted a nude video of her on the internet, Hasselbeck said he could have gotten as much without bothering with so much trouble.
The wife of Tim Hasselbeck believed that the stalker (now serving a 2 1/2-year prison term) could have saved his arrest had he waited for a few weeks, because then he would have seen almost as much on TV.
“I mean, in some way if I'm him, I'm like, 'Man! I just could’ve waited 12 weeks and seen this — a little bit less — without the prison time!'” commented Hasselbeck, which apparently made the DWTS contestant cry.
“I'm really sorry, and I wanted to offer that publicly too.” -- Elisabeth Hasselbeck
Andrews, who has also got death threats from another stalker, was obviously offended by Hasselback’s comments.
“[It's] a slap in the face to victims of stalking and sexual predators,” Andrews said after Tuesday's show. “[As a] woman, I'm disappointed she went there.”
Felt bad for making the rude comment?
The remark took many by surprise, and even Hasselbeck realized after some time that she had gone way too far in saying all that. The former ‘Survivor’ contestant revealed that when she left work that day she was feeling really bad for what she had said.
Though Elisabeth could not undo the damage done, she tried to make up with a tearful apology as she told the viewers that “reckless words pierce someone's heart like a sword.”
Little daughter helped her “say sorry”
Her 5-year-old daughter helped her get over the awful feelings by helping her build the courage to apologize to Andrews.
“She's so cute; she said to me, 'Mommy, why don't you just call Erin and tell her you're sorry?,'” said Hasselbeck on Wednesday’s show. “So, thankfully, I listened to her — she's a wise little girl — and I did. So, I'm really sorry, and I wanted to offer that publicly too, even though I did follow that advice.”
