Heather Locklear cited, fined for knocking down no parking sign

The naturally blonde-headed Locklear reportedly hit a no-parking sign on a public street in California on Saturday around 4a.m. and fled the scene before anyone could identify her.

According to People.com, Locklear was arrested after hitting her car early Saturday morning on a public street close to her home in a gated-community in Westlake Village, California. She left without notifying anyone, reports the website, citing police officials.

The 48-year-old star was cited for misdemeanor hit-and-run after Ventura County Sheriffs examined debris left at the scene and traced it back to her black 2005 BMW, sheriff's spokesman Ross Bonfiglio told People.

The actress was arrested for hitting his car and fled, but was released after being fined.

"While Locklear was technically arrested, she was not handcuffed or taken to a station because it was just a misdemeanor charge. She was cooperative, but I can't give any information about any statements she made. She was cited and released. She signed a document stating she would make a court appearance," Bonfiglio told People.

Early morning crash
Police was called to the scene near North Ranch Country Club in Westlake, California, by a neighbor who heard the crash at around 4 in the morning but didn't call police until later that evening.

Deputies then went out to the area and found a no parking sign that had been knocked down. An investigation led police to Locklear home, where they saw the damage to her car. After the investigation, the deputies determined the car involved had been Locklear's black BMW. They then cited her for hit and run at her home.

"It appears she drove up on a curb and hit the sign," Bonfiglio told the popular celebrity magazine’s website. "There's no indication alcohol was involved. We don't know if anyone was in the car with her at the time."

Past DUI
Locklear is currently serving a three-year probation term after pleading no contest to reckless driving following her September 2008 DUI arrest.
That year she was arrested in Santa Barbara, California, for allegedly driving under the influence of prescription medication.

Probation violation is likely
Her latest early-morning collision could be a probation violation, according to a Santa Barbara prosecutor.

"If she's found guilty of this alleged crime, it would most likely be a violation of her probation, in which case she could be facing up to 90 days in jail," Santa Barbara County Senior Deputy District Attorney Lee Carter told People. "But we'll probably wait to see what the outcome of this latest case is."

Locklear's attorney responds
Meanwhile, Locklear’s attorney, Blair Berk, has said she may not have been at the wheel during the hit and run, reports People.

"Ms. Locklear was cited with a misdemeanor traffic ticket as she is the registered owner of the vehicle. She was never taken into custody," Berk said. "The matter is still being looked into as it is not yet clear who was driving the vehicle."

She’s due in Simi Valley Court on May 17.
