Bret Michaels neglected some severe stomach pain on Sunday night and eventually landed up in a hospital for emergency surgery. His medical problem forced the rock star to skip his Sunday show in San Antonio, Texas.
The Rock of Love star was rushed to a San Antonio hospital early Monday morning for an emergency appendectomy.
The surgery has reportedly been successful in Michaels is now recovering well.
It was actually acute appendicitis
The rocker is known to push himself way beyond his limits. Thinking he has only been hit by bad flu, the former Poison front man did not pay much heed to his illness. However, the doctor diagnosed his illness to be acute appendicitis and took him for an emergency surgery at 1 a.m.
Currently, he is said to be getting his strength back in the hospital.
Owing to the uncalled illness, the musician had to call off his Sunday night’s performance in San Antonio, Texas, and his extended hospital stay has caused him to reschedule some of his shows this month
The rocker "remains in the hospital, is doing well and beginning the recovery process," said his rep.
Rescheduling some shows
Owing to the uncalled illness, the musician had to call off his Sunday night’s performance in San Antonio, Texas, and his extended hospital stay has caused him to reschedule some of his shows this month.
"Michaels, who has been known to perform under extreme conditions that would make most performers cancel, will unfortunately have no choice but to reschedule some of his April tour dates," said his rep.
Michaels, a participant NBC’s show ‘The Celebrity Apprentice’, cried in Sunday’s episode as he was worried about his daughter, who was to be tested for diabetes. The show was filmed last fall and Michaels took up the challenge on the show on behalf of a juvenile diabetes charity.
Michaels’ medical issues
Medical issues have an old association with Bret Michaels. The performer is a diabetic himself, and is rather paranoid about it. He gives himself several insulin shots and checks his blood sugar four to six times a day.
The rocker had been hit by diabetes in his childhood, and probably that is why he could not control his sentiments to flow on learning that his daughter could be facing a similar situation.
He has also suffered several injuries and is frequently hospitalized. At last year's Tony Awards, Michaels was hit by a stage prop, which caused him to suffer a broken nose.
