Nintendo to convert its DS consoles into educational tools

According to Miyamoto, Nintendo’s DS consoles are all set to be released "in junior high and elementary schools in Japan starting in the new school year."

The General Manager of Nintendo Entertainment, Analysis & Development, Shigeru Miyamoto, in an interview given to Associated Press revealed his ambitious plan to turn Nintendo DS handheld consoles into effective educational tools used in schools.

The 57-year-old Japanese game designer and producer said, "That is maybe the area where I am devoting myself (the) most."

Miyamoto said that Japanese museums, galleries and aquariums are already using the services of Nintendo’s DS consoles. If everything works out as planned then soon schools will benefit from Wii’s services too.

According to Miyamoto, Nintendo’s DS consoles are all set to be released "in junior high and elementary schools in Japan starting in the new school year."

Miyamoto’s vision was behind the creation of popular interactive games such as Wii Music, Wii Fit and he also provided design for Wii motion sensing controller for the games to make it more fun for the player.

Miyamoto honored at GAME Awards in London
Miyamoto was in London on Friday night to accept the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Fellowships award at the GAME British Academy Video Games award.

With this honorary title Miyamoto joined the league of legends such as Stanley Kubrick and Alfred Hitchcock.

"It's a great honor that my name might be listed as a fellowship member along with such a great director as Hitchcock," said Miyamoto after accepting the honor.

"I have never said that video games (are) an art," said Miyamoto, declining to accept the suggestions that his work falls under the same category as some of the classic films of the era.

Miyamoto also said that he felt “honored” after hearing the news that Sony and Microsoft are following the footsteps of Wii Motion Controller by releasing their own motion control systems.

Games like ‘StreetFighter IV’ and ‘Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’ were in the race for top awards at the GAME awards function, along with Miyamoto’s three titles including ‘New Super Mario Bros. Wii’.

The ‘Uncharted 2: Among Thieves’ won awards for Action, Story, Best Use of Audio and Best Original Score, while the Best Game and Gameplay award went to ‘Batman: Arkham Asylum’ at the ceremony.

‘Pikmin 3’ under production
After the award function Shigeru Miyamoto revealed in an exclusive interview to Nintendo Magazine that ‘Pikmin 3’ is under production and release date will be announced as soon as the game is completed.

Magazine posted on its Twitter page,"ONM is at the BAFTAs! Miyamoto just told us Pikmin 3 development is 'well under way."
