Nexus One will be available on Vodafone in Europe and Verizon Wireless in the nation this spring.
Google Inc. on Tuesday announced that customers can now buy the latest upgraded version of Nexus One mobile phone that will run on AT&T’s 3G wireless network in United States.
The same version will available on Rogers Wireless in Canada. Customers can buy the AT&T’s 3G compatible unlocked Nexus One for $529 on Google’s online store.
As per a report by Bloomberg, customers who intend to purchase upgraded version will have to buy a $25 SIM and could sign up for a data and voice plan with the carrier.
The original version of Nexus One phone was launched in January for $179 and with a two-year contract that ran on AT&T’s older, slower network and Deutsche Telekom AG unit T-Mobile’s 3G network.
Google also announced that Nexus One will be available on Vodafone in Europe and Verizon Wireless in the nation this spring.
Google’s Nexus One sales slower than other smartphones in market
According to a mobile analyst firm Flurry, Google’s efforts to make its mark in the smartphone market seems to be falling short due to Nexus One’s not so good sales figures.
"Despite the fact that the Google Nexus One is the most advanced Android handset to date, and enjoyed substantial buzz leading up to its release, the launch has been overshadowed by lower than expected sales," said an analyst at mobile analyst firm Flurry.
"As Google and Apple continue to battle for the mobile marketplace, Google Nexus One may go down as a grand, failed experiment or one that ultimately helped Google learn something that will prove important in years to come," wrote Flurry VP of marketing Peter Farago in his blog.
As per the data collected by the firm, Droid sold around 1.05 million units in its first 74 days. On the other hand, iPhone sold around 1 million within few days from its launch in 2007.
However, Google’s Nexus One in its first 74 days only managed to sell some 135,000 units.
Google happy with Nexus One sales figures
Even amid the reports that Nexus One is not doing business as per expectations, Google has stated that the company is happy with all the response they have got from their experiment of selling its device online.
Google’s spokesperson said via a statement, "We're pleased with our sales volumes and with how well the Nexus One has been received by our customers. The Nexus One is one of a fast growing number of Android handsets which have been brought to market through the open Android ecosystem. Our partners are shipping more than 60,000 Android handsets each day compared with 30,000 just three months ago."
