With the arrival of smartphones in the market, war between Google and Apple is on rise since both wants to capture a large share of the market in a bid to outshine the other.
Google Inc.’s newly hired “developer advocate” for Android OS Tim Bray (a former software developer at Oracle and Sun Microsystems) declared on Monday that he “hates” Apple's iPhone
Bray wrote in his blog post entry, "The iPhone vision of the mobile Internet's future omits controversy, sex, and freedom, but includes strict limits on who can know what and who can say what. It's a sterile Disney-fied walled garden surrounded by sharp-toothed lawyers.
The people who create the apps serve at the landlord's pleasure and fear his anger. I hate it even though the iPhone hardware and software are great, because freedom's not just another word for anything, nor is it an optional ingredient," added Bray.
However, Apple’s spokesman refused the request to comment on this latest development.
Google and Apple war heating-up?
With the arrival of smartphones in the market, war between Google and Apple is on rise since both wants to capture a large share of the market in a bid to outshine the other.
While Google and Apple are old rivals, who never shy away from taking a pot-shot at each other but of course not directly. So far their fights have been tight-lipped affair managed strictly through legal channels.
Apple on Mar. 2 filed a lawsuit against HTC Corp. (one of the Google’s Android OS partners), alleging that HTC is violating 20 iPhone patents. However, the lawsuit had nothing to do with Google directly but was seen as a legal way to slow down the market adoption of Google’s Android OS.
Recently TechCrunch has reported that Apple has hired RJ Pittman, who worked at Google as a director of product management.
Interestingly, just last August both companies have agreed not to poach each other’s employees but this latest moves suggests that the deal is over.
iPhone and Android favorite among BlackBerry users
A recent study of smartphone owners by Crowd Science has revealed that BlackBerry owners, if given a choice, will gladly switch to Google’s Nexus one from Apple’s iPhone.
The study showed that startling 40 percent BlackBerry users have already made up their mind to switch to Apple’s iPhone as soon as their current contract expires.
Apparently, 32 percent BlackBerry users, if given an option, will move on to Google’s Android-powered Nexus One smartphone.
According to CEO of Crowd Science, John Martin, "These results show that the restlessness of BlackBerry users with their current brand hasn't just been driven by the allure of iPhone. Rather, BlackBerry as a brand just isn't garnering the loyalty seen with other mobile operating systems."
The study also revealed that about 90 percent of Android and iPhone users are happy with their devices and have no plans to swap devices even if they are given a chance to upgrade.
