Howard Stern’s remarks about Academy Award-nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe’s weight and career in Hollywood has drawn the ire from the Precious star’s family and her supporters including other celebrities.

The US shock jock Stern, known for making outrageous statements, made controversial remarks about the Precious star on his Sirius/XM radio Show last week.

Stern’s recent outburst came after Oprah Winfrey introduced Sidibe as a Best Actress nominee During the Academy Awards, complimenting her acting skills and stating that this is just the start of her long acting career.

Stern’s racist remarks
After hearing Oprah’s remarks and seeing Sidibe at the Oscars, Stern responded in disgust, saying the actress could kiss her Hollywood career goodbye because of her weight.

Bashing Sidibe’s weight, Stern said: “There's the most enormous, fat black chick I've ever seen. She is enormous. Everyone's pretending she's a part of show business and she's never going to be in another movie.”

He added, “She should have gotten the Best Actress award because she's never going to have another shot. What movie is she gonna be in?”

Responding to Stern’s remarks about Sidibe’s weight and her possible failure in Hollywood career, the actress’s mother Alice said in an interview with Inside Edition: “Gaby is a big girl, she’s a big woman, so what’s wrong with that?”

On The View Thursday, Whoopi Goldberg came to Sidibe’s aide saying, “Before you just dismiss her because of her size, take a look at her talent and maybe some writers will write some stuff for her.”

Also, Jessica Simpson has stood up for Sidibe, saying: “I'm actually surprised somebody had the cojones to say that. I just think that's really disrespectful.”

"It's unfortunate because she walked the red carpet at the Oscars and she owned it," Simpson said of the Precious star. "She was beautiful. There was no denying that she did not think she was the most beautiful person on that red carpet. She was just owning that moment for herself. She had such confidence and I absolutely 100 percent think she could get anything in the world that she wants."

Stern bashes Oprah
While making remarks about Sidibe’s weight and career, Stern also took jabs at Oprah saying, “Oprah's another liar, a filthy liar. She's telling an enormous woman the size of a planet that she's going to have a career.”

He also commented on Sidibe’s acting in her debut film Precious saying, “It was more about her physical appearance that actually made her great in that movie. There really wasn’t much acting involved.”

Seemingly, Stern’s assessment has been proven wrong. According to ABC News, Sidibe has signed on to a recurring role on the new Showtime series, The C Word and will star opposite Zoe Kravitz in the film Yelling to the Sky.

In defense of his comments, on his Sirius radio show, Stern explained: “The point I was trying to make is that obesity in this country is out of control. What’s really sad is that you do see people now saying it’s OK to be this heavy, you have to love your own body, and you have to embrace it.”

Further defending his remarks, he said that Gabby should not be considered a role model for other overweight women to love their bodies, because what they really should be doing trying to lose weight. He also maintained that Sidibe’s health may be may risk due to her excessive weight.

“I feel this girl is going to kill herself, you can’t eat like this. I did enjoy her performance [in 'Precious'], I have nothing against her. The fact is that I’m just trying to say she’s enormous.”
