The Canadian actor reportedly collapsed in his mother’s North Hollywood apartment and was rushed to Providence St. Joseph's Medical Center in Burbank
Corey Haim of ‘The Lost Boys’ fame died Wednesday morning of an apparent drug overdose. He was 38.
The Los Angeles coroner's office confirmed the news, saying it will launch an investigation into the case. The actor was a drug addict and accidental drug overdose is being suspected as the most probable cause of his death but the actual cause can be determined only after an autopsy.
Overdose of prescription drugs?
The Canadian actor reportedly collapsed in his mother’s North Hollywood apartment, and was found lying close to several bottles of prescription pills. He had been moderately ill in the past couple of days but the medicines found close to his body were not linked to his sickness.
Corey’s mother quickly called 911 and he was rushed to Providence St. Joseph's Medical Center in Burbank at around 3:30 a.m.
No other details were released.
Struggle with drug addiction
Haim had been addicted to cocaine and valium for many years and was struggling to fight his addiction. He had reportedly been admitted to rehab centers more than 15 times.

“I started on the downers which were a hell of a lot better than the uppers because I was a nervous wreck. But one led to two, two led to four, four led to eight, until at the end it was about 85 a day — the doctors could not believe I was taking that much,” Haim had said, owning up about his struggle with drugs.
“And that was just the Valium — I’m not talking about the other pills I went through.”
