When he started off with the process of bringing Stephanie Meyer’s ‘Twilight’ to the big screen, little did Pattison know that his vampire character, Edward Cullen, would take him to such heights.
Robert Pattinson is much in demand. Nobody would be oblivious to the magnetism of the charming Twilight star, but the 23-year-old is now making married men insecure. According to a recent survey, 87 percent women are ready to drop their husbands for Pattinson.
The iVillage Entertainment survey involved 130,000 women; young or old, all seem to be smitten by the British actor.
Untouched by fame
When he started off with the process of bringing Stephanie Meyer’s ‘Twilight’ to the big screen, little did Pattison know that his vampire character, Edward Cullen, would take him to such heights.
But the star has managed all that adoration quite well and his family is also not affected much, he says. “My family has dealt with it really well,” he says. “They're pretty untouched by it.”
“I don't particularly feel any different and I think because I've gone from job to job it means you stay in this sort of nether world, so I feel relatively untouched.”
It’s different in London
Also, being in London makes it easy for the hugely-popular star to go without getting mobbed all the time. People can be stuck-up; they hold back their admiration for a movie star.
“People are very different about it in London,” admits Pattinson, adding that sometimes he feels people are embarrassed to approach him. “If they do recognise me, they're embarrassed to say something and you can go into so many areas where people have no idea who you are.”
He narrated a recent incident where a barmaid kept telling Pattinson “You look just like that guy from Twilight,” but she did not acknowledge him. “I was astonished because every time she came up she was like, 'You literally could be his brother' and she never put two and two together,” he said.
Pattinson has gathered much of this fame from ‘Twilight’ and his vampire character, Edward Cullen, also takes some credit. Will he is able to retain his charm outside the Edward Cullen disguise? It will become clear when his new movie ‘Remember Me’ hits the theatres next Friday.
Remember Me
In his new movie, Pattinson plays Tyler, a rebellious young man, who has a poor relationship with his father (Pierce Brosnan) after his elder brother commits suicide.
Tyler takes a beating at the hands of a police officer, but ends up falling in love with his daughter Ally (Emilie De Ravin), who is a college student. Tyler and Ally go on to be together but their relationship is constantly threatened.
About moving beyond the Twilight series, Pattinson says he took up this movie as the script appealed to him. “As soon as I read the script, I related to it in a fundamental way, right from the beginning,” he said. “It seemed like it was written for a reason.”
