Marie Osmond's son jumped to his death

Blosil, one of Osmond's five adopted children, had long struggled with depression.

U.S. entertainer Marie Osmond’s young son, Michael Brian Blosil, has died, multiple tabloid reports confirm, citing a spokesperson for the family.

If the reports are to be believed the 18-year-old Blosil committed suicide Friday night. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Lt. Brian Elias told LA Times that Blosil's body is currently being held at the Coroner’s Office, and the death is still under investigation.

Tragic loss
The distraught Osmond confirmed through her publicist that her family is devastated by the "tragic loss." However, she did not provide details on the death.

"My family and I are devastated and in deep shock by the tragic loss of our dear Michael and ask that everyone respect our privacy during this difficult time," the 50-year-old entertainer said in a statement through the family spokesperson, as reported by the LA Times.

Entertainment Tonight has quoted Osmond’s brother, Donny Osmond, as saying, "Please pray for my sister and her family."

Jumped to his death
Several entertainment and celebrity gossip Web sites like Entertainment Tonight, TMZ and People are reporting that Blosil has killed himself by leaping to his death.

ET reported on its Web site that the singer Marie Osmond's teenage son jumped to his death on Friday night around 9 p.m. from a downtown Los Angeles apartment building.

The Web site says that the deceased had left a suicide note in which he explained he intended to end his life after lifelong battle with severe depression that left him, he said, feeling as if he had no friends and could never fit in.

Blosil battled depression throughout life
Blosil, one of Osmond's five adopted children, had long struggled with depression.

According to Access Hollywood, in November 2007, Blosil had entered a rehabilitation facility, dealing with depression.

“My son Michael is an amazing young man,” Osmond said, in a statement through her rep, at the time, as reported by Access. “(He has) shown through his courage in facing his issues. As his mother, I couldn’t be more proud of him. The press and public have always been kind and gracious in the past and I know they will continue to respect our privacy during this time.”

Osmond, who is best known for the ABC variety show ‘Donny and Marie’ in the late 1970s, has eight children, three of whom are from her two marriages. Blosil was one of five children adopted by Osmond and ex-husband Brian Blosil before the couple divorced in 2007.

Osmond's Las Vegas show with her brother Donny was canceled for Saturday.
