‘American Idol’ season 5 finalist Elliott Yamin is one of the lucky ones to survive 8.8-magnitude earthquake that hit Chile Saturday morning.

Yamin had just returned to his hotel room, following his performance at the Competencia Internacional in Vina del Mar, when the earthquake rocked the South American country at 3:30 a.m. local time.

The former ‘Idol’ contestant had sung ‘Rock Around The Clock’ at this biggest music event in Chile, which is aired live across the country.

Yemin's rattling earthquake experience
Within hours after the earthquake, the American singer took to his Twitter feed, informing his followers about the massive earthquake.

“Huge earthquake just now in Chile!!....I swear I thought this was the end of my life!!!!!,” tweeted Yamin.

Though the epicenter, near Concepcion, was 90 miles away from Viña del Mar, the entire city was panic stricken.

He explained the chaotic scene as, “Complete and utter choas on the streets...no power...my heart is beatin outta my chest!....tsunami warnin...I am only a mile inland!”

Few minutes later he again tweeted that his team was "safe and sound" and "finally calmer."

“I'm totally calm now…were all 2gether...got blankets from our rooms, and we're all hudled on the street,” he wrote.

Yamin also talked about the aftershocks, saying, “Whoa!!...just felt a pretty strong aftershock!...mother nature aint givin up on yet!!” Later he added that they had experienced “about 30 aftershox already.”

Yamin’s health concern
While giving an hourly account of the earthquake, Yamin expressed concerns that he is a diabetic patient and was apprehensive that he might not get his insulin supplies.

“Just got word that the airport in Santiago is closed...the tarmac has been reduced 2 rubble...my blood sugar is really hi,” tweeted Yamin.

He added that he is type 1 diabetic and he has limited insulin pump supplies, which will last only till Sunday, the day he was scheduled to leave the city. Since the airports were closed, he was worried that he might not get enough insulin to treat high blood sugar level.

Happy to be alive
The former Idol finalist was later rescued from Vina del Mar and transported to Santiago.

In a Twitter post from Santiago, Yamin expressed his happiness for being live and safe. At the same time he added, “my thoughts and prayers go out 2 all victims/fams.seeing images of the devastation 4 1st time NOW. we were so lucky!.”

He later tweeted, “life is a rollercoaster, and im always in the front seat!...angola africa, then Chile..hope everyone feels a lil safer here 2nite!!.gd bless.”
