Meanwhile, Lohan’s father, Michael, has slammed her daughter’s allegations that his frequent media antics further fueled her battle with the bottle and drug addiction.
Troubled Hollywood starlet Lindsay Lohan has hit headlines again, this time talking candidly about her history of cocaine use as well as her three rehab visits and her arrest for drunk driving twice.
Lohan, who is going through a rough time for the last couple of years, was recently interviewed by British tabloid The Sun, where she opened up about her troubled life.
Father got LiLo curious about the drug
During the interview, the former child actress, who starred in ‘The Parent Trap’ and ‘Mean Girls’, told the U.K.'s Sun about her cocaine habit, her two DUIs and cocaine possession charges in 2007, which led to three stints in rehab.
As of her cocaine habit, LiLo told the British newspaper that her estranged father Michael Lohan turned her to that.
"I was only aware of cocaine because of my dad," she claimed. "I was terrified of it. But I tried it because I was stubborn, stupid and wanted to see what it was like."
According to CelebrityCafe, Lindsay claims her dad had a habit of being too open about the family’s personal matters, which didn’t fit well with her. “I tried to mask my problems with alcohol, cocaine, and mind-altering substances,” she said in the interview.
Outspoken dad fueled her problems
The 23-year-old actress, who has an on/off relationship with DJ Samantha Ronson, also blames dad Lohan’s outspoken nature for her two DUIs and cocaine possession charges in 2007, which led to three stints in rehab. Lindsay said her father made her private life the subject of public discussion, pushing her to abuse drugs more than normal.
"When my father was going public, that's when I hit rock bottom. I abused substances too much and it wasn't the answer to my problems. People need to know that," she told the paper.
Speaking about one of her multiple stints in the rehab, the ‘Mean Girls’ star explained, “The first time I checked myself in because I had taken Ambien. It’s a sleeping aid but it makes you hallucinate. I’d run a bath and fallen asleep on the floor and it overflowed. When I woke up, I was so scared I called my therapist and said, ‘Can I just go somewhere for a month? I’m around bad people and I need to take care of myself.’ I was terrified, so I put my name in.”
Learned from mistakes
In the past Lindsay indeed has often turned to drugs and alcohol to ease pain of her personal problems, but she says, “Now I’m in a place where I don’t need to use anything and I can feel emotions because I choose to.”
Now, Lindsay claims to be clean and sober and seeks to be a good role model for other young people.
“I never want to be close to losing everything I worked for and aspired to have my whole life. I’ve made some dreadful mistakes but learned from them – that has probably saved my life.
"Mind-altering drugs are so dangerous. I'm allowed to drink now but I know my limits. Partying so hard isn't worth it."
Michael’s response to Lindsay’s allegations
Meanwhile, Lohan’s father, Michael, has slammed her daughter’s allegations that his frequent media antics further fueled her battle with the bottle and drug addiction.
Dad Lohan insists that LiLo’s wild ways had become uncontrollable, forcing him to turn to the media as a last resort, according to Hollyscoop.com.
"In response to Lindsay's interview with the Sun: While I'm very happy that Lindsay is beginning to come 'clean,' the truth of the matter is I went public when she hit rock bottom. SHE DID NOT GO ROCK BOTTOM WHEN I WENT PUBLIC...
"And while I find her admissions of her experiences with alcohol and cocaine to be noble, the REAL PROBLEM still exists with the prescription drug use that the so-called 'addiction specialist', therapist and doctors are prescribing... to Lindsay," he told Hollyscoop.
