Facebook technical snag triggers ranting tweets

The outage gave rise to rumors that the social networking site may have been attacked by cyber criminals. But Facebook rebuffed all hacking rumors and called the problem just a temporary technical glitch.

In a server problem that affected Facebook, many users across the world were not able to successfully access the social networking site on Saturday.

Users in many countries, including United States, Britain, Thailand and Mexico, reported problems, beginning Saturday morning.

Some of the users were not able to log in to the site. Others, who were able to log in, had problems accessing some features and applications, or experienced slow page download.

Facebook immediately realized the problem being faced by the users and took to its Twitter feed, stating, “Some people are having trouble accessing Facebook and site features because of an isolated server issue. We are working to fix this ASAP.”

Irked Facebook users
In the meantime, frustrated Facebook users turned to the micro blogging site Twitter to vent their annoyance for experiencing problems accessing the site.

A user named missguccifloyd tweeted, "The page you requested was not found. SMH IT'S MY GODDAMN PROFILE!"

Another user named JollyGreen303 commented, “Facebook not letting me leave videos for people is quickly becoming the worst part of my day.”

“Getting frustrated by these Facebook problems, I'm also having a hard time navigating through it,” tweeted a user named Aaron_A_Shaw.

Facebook restored
The outage gave rise to rumors that the social networking site may have been attacked by cyber criminals. But Facebook rebuffed all hacking rumors and called the problem just a temporary technical glitch.

At 11 in the night, the social networking site restored access. “We have restored access to Facebook for those who had trouble logging in or using some features. Thank you for your patience,” Facebook tweeted.

Matt Hicks, Facebook’s spokesperson, said that the glitch affected only “small percentage” of its 400 million users but did not specify the number of users.

The site has experienced problems in the past, but unlike Twitter, these have never been so serious to completely shut down the site.

In December, Twitter was hacked and it resulted in complete shutdown of the site for several hours.
