Alexander McQueen, the British fashion designer found dead at his home last week, died as a result of asphyxiation and hanging, a British coroner official has told an inquest Wednesday.
The 40-year-old McQueen's body was found in his London apartment on Feb. 11, the eve of his mother's funeral. It was reported at the time that McQueen was found dead by his cleaner after she arrived at the flat, in a six-storey redbrick building near Hyde Park, Thursday morning and she dialed 999.
The designer died due to asphyxiation and hanging
On Wednesday, a British coroner's official told an inquest was found hanging in the wardrobe of his apartment last week with a note left nearby.
Coroner's officer Lynda Martindill said the renowned fashion designer had died of asphyxiation and hanging.
Martindill said a post-mortem examination of McQueen's body on Monday had revealed two causes of death, asphyhxia and hanging, but insisted that no analysis or report was yet available.
"The coroner said a note had been found and is being looked at by the police," Martindill said, adding that full details of the autopsy will be available in a few months.
A police officer told the Westminster Coroner's Court there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
The full inquest into the death of the fashion designer is adjourned to April 28.
Tragic loss of fashion designer
The fashion designer, whose full name was Lee Alexander McQueen, was found dead at 5:30 a.m. EST at his flat in Green Street, Mayfair, last Thursday.

McQueen allegedly hanged himself, devastated by the death of his beloved mother, Joyce.
It has been reported that McQueen's mother passed away few weeks ago, and that days after her death the devastated fashion designer posted anguished online remarks about his mother, who, he wrote in a Twitter post, died Feb. 2.
McQueen, known for producing some of the most controversial collections of the past twenty years, made outfits for stars including Lady GaGa, Madonna, Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Sarah Jessica Parker during his career.
His designs were also favored by Prince Charles.
A bit more on the designer
McQueen was one of the youngest designers to win the title "British Designer of the Year." He won it four times between 1996 and 2003.
He worked as Creative Director with Gucci Group, and had his own boutiques in New York, London, Los Angeles, Milan and Las Vegas.
McQueen is survived by his father, Ron, and five siblings, Janet McQueen, Tracey Chapman, Jacqui McQueen, Tony McQueen and Michael McQueen.
