Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog launching this summer

As per the trailer, the game is abandoning the 3D platforming and will instead focus on 2D plane and blue hedgedog will be the only playable character.

New York, February 4 -- Sega has been touting its upcoming secret project since September last year. As per its Web site, the game Sonic the Hedgehog will be launched in summer 2010.

According to various media reports, company’s project Needlemouse is a sequel to Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles.

The game, whose official trailer appeared on GamesSpot, is titled Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1.

Game coming on four gaming platforms
As per the trailer, the game is abandoning the 3D platforming and will instead focus on 2D plane. The blue hedgehog will be the only playable character.

As per its Web site, the game will be launched in summer 2010 and will be coming on four gaming platforms, which include PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, WiiWare. The name of the fourth platform is yet a secret.

Ken Balough, associate brand manager on Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, was quoted by GameSpot as saying, "As mentioned, I think the best way to view it is as a first part in a much larger adventure. When Sega released Sonic 3, ultimately it was the part 1 of a story that saw its conclusion in Sonic & Knuckles. In that same spirit, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is a bigger story, and this is that first chapter.”

He added that by the end of episode the fans will be excited to see what will happen in the next episode.

More information to be revealed soon
Sega has not revealed much information as much of its site is locked, but it has laid schedule for more information.

The site states that more information about the game will be revealed tomorrow at noon. The information about the characters will be revealed Feb. 9 at noon.

On Feb. 11, the company will reveal more information, and finally on Feb. 25, Sega will post new multimedia for the game; there may be some screenshots.

The Sega fans are already excited and are looking forward for more information to be released. A fan named Erdricks_Boxers commented on 1up.com, “Day One. Can't wait for this. Can. Not. Wait.”
