Oscar-expectant wins Razzie nomination

Other films nominated for the worst-picture Razzie include Sandra Bullock’s ‘All About Steve,’ ‘G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra’ and the Robin Williams-John Travolta comedy ‘Old Dogs.’

Razzie nomination for Oscar-hopeful
Sandra Bullock is expected to be among the best-actress nominees at the upcoming Oscars for her hit drama ‘The Blind Side.’ Interestingly, she has simultaneously won a worst-actress nomination at the Razzies for ‘All About Steve.’

Bullock’s status is rather amusing. If she wins on both sides, she’ll become the first star to take home the trophies for the best and the worst actress in the same year.

"She could be the first person ever to win a Razzie and an Oscar in the same weekend," said John Wilson, founder of the Golden Raspberry Awards.

A similar situation has taken hold of Oscar ceremony co-host Steve Martin, who has scored a nomination for worst actor in ‘Pink Panther 2.’

Bullock and Martin are both concurrently aiming for the Oscar, the highest award of Hollywood, and the Razzie awards, which are now celebrating three decades of picking out the industry’s worst.

Initially, they were considering expanding Razzies’ worst-picture list to 10 nominees (like the Oscars’ list of best pictures), since 2009 has brought quite a few disasters, said Wilson, “but then I realized that our membership is only one-tenth of the academy, and it would have no meaning. It would be just like the Golden Globes where a movie can win with only 17 votes.”

Worst-of-the-decade
This year, they are also bringing up the worst-of-the-decade picks. Nominees for the worst-picture include John Travolta's ‘Battlefield Earth,’ Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez's ‘Gigli,’ Tom Green's ‘Freddy Got Fingered,’ Lindsay Lohan's ‘I Know Who Killed Me’ and Madonna's ‘Swept Away.’

Eddie Murphy, Mike Myers, Rob Schneider, Ben Affleck and John Travolta have all bagged nominations for the worst actor of the decade. And the nominees for the worst-actress include Lindsay Lohan, Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, Madonna and Paris Hilton.

Wilson thinks that the real competition for the worst actress trophy is between Hilton and Lohan, while among the men, “Eddie Murphy I would guess would be pretty hard to beat as worst actor of the decade,” he said.

Young Razzie nominees
Youngsters’ favorites like Miley Cyrus, Robert Pattinson and the three Jonas brothers have all won nominations in different categories of the Razzies this year.

The ceremony for Razzie awards will be held at Hollywood's Barnsdall Gallery Theatre at 7:30 p.m. March 6, the night before Hollywood’s big merriment at the Oscars.

Though most stars give a miss to the Razzies, there are a few good sports who turn up to take pleasure in the mockery.
