Book uncovers ugly side of John Edwards; wife decides to leave

Besides unveiling his extra-marital affair, Young also presents an ugly portrait of John Edwards in his book.

Washington, January 28 -- John Edwards was unfaithful to his wife, reveals a former aide of the two-time presidential candidate in his new tell-all book, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.

Grabbing a copy of Andrew Young’s ‘The Politician’, the WSJ discloses that readers will have much to take in when they reach page 154. The story picks heat from there as Young starts narrating how Edwards tried to keep his extramarital affair under wraps, all for the love of his wife.

He betrayed Elizabeth Edwards, and even thought of leaving her but the 2008 presidential hopeful also cited love for his wife, and decided to keep the details of his affair with Rielle Hunter hidden from her.

Passing paternal liability
Rielle Hunter was a videographer who worked with Edwards on his 2008 presidential nomination campaign. When she became pregnant, Edwards convinced Young to claim that he was the father of the child and asked him to go underground with his mistress. The former Democratic Party vice presidential nominee cited his wife’s poor health as a justification for this step.

Edwards concluded “that if I helped him, I would make Mrs. Edwards's dying days a bit easier. ‘I know you're mad at her, Andrew, but I love her. I can't let her die knowing this.’” writes Young in his upcoming book.

Elizabeth Edwards was diagnosed with breast cancer in Nov 2004. She sought treatment and the cancer seemed to subside but during a press conference in Mar 2007, John and Elizabeth Edwards stated that her cancer had returned.

The book, published by St. Martin's Press, brings out many juicy details from the life of John Edwards, who, after many denials, recently accepted that he is the father of Hunter's 2-year-old daughter. The book is due to be released on Feb. 2.

According to the WSJ, Young claims to have come across a compromising video of Edwards and a naked, pregnant lady identified by him as Hunter. “It was like watching a traffic pileup occur in slow motion — it was repelling but also transfixing,” he said in description of the videotape.

John Edwards uncovered
Besides unveiling his extra-marital affair, Young also presents an ugly portrait of John Edwards in his book.

Edwards, who billed himself as the diffident son of a mill worker, detested making appearances at state fairs where “fat rednecks try to shove food down my face. I know I'm the people's senator, but do I have to hang out with them?”

He also reveals about Edwards’ fixation with his hair and his greed for campaign donations, quoting: “Everyone wants to give me advice. I don’t want their advice. I want their money.”

John and Elizabeth Edwards part ways
Informing about the inevitable climax, Andrea Purse, a friend of Elizabeth Edwards, reportedly told the AP that John and Elizabeth Edwards have officially parted ways. “Elizabeth is moving on with her life and wants to put this difficult chapter behind her,” she said.

John and Elizabeth Edwards had four children together. The 2004 Democratic vice presidential candidate has tried to keep out of the public eye for more than an year as details of his personal life started coming out.
