Los Angeles, CA, January 27 -- Los Angeles round of auditions for hit reality show ‘American Idol’ saw singers Katy Perry and Avril Lavigne as guest judges. Both the singers reviewed thousands of contestants together.

The guest judges issued 22 golden tickets in all. Lavigne said no to a pastor whom the other three judges loved, while Perry snapped back at a young man saying, “This is not a Lifetime movie, sweetheart.”

After L.A. round of audition, the show is expected to head to Dallas with guest panelists Joe Jonas and Neil Patrick Harris.

Audition’s highlights
During the audition, Perry entertained contestants and viewers alike. She had frequent spats with Judge and close friend Kara DioGuardi.

A particular contestant from Burbank, Calif. really impressed Avril Lavigne, putting a broad smile on her face.

Songwriter DioGuardi was impressed with a moving story of a 25-year-old Los Angeles shoe salesman, Chris Golightly. Golightly had spent his childhood in 25 foster families and had sung Ben E. King's “Stand by Me.” This led DioGuardi to support him, and she said, “He has an amazing story.”

However, Perry disagreed and said, “He has an amazing story, but you have to have talent. Everybody has amazing stories.”

The Judges
‘American idol,’ which started its ninth season on Jan. 12, has Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, and Kara DioGuardi as its judges. Ellen DeGeneres has replaced singer Paula Abdul as the fourth judge.

However, there will be another change after this season as recently Cowell announced his decision to depart from the series mainly to prepare for the talent show “X Factor.”
