Travolta did a similar aid run during a natural disaster back in 2005 when Hurricane Katrina slammed the U.S. Gulf Coast, destroying tens of thousands of homes and killing nearly 1,500 people.
Los Angeles, January 27 -- Actor John Travolta has flown back to the United States after flying a Boeing 707 himself to Haiti loaded with four tons of supplies.
The Hollywood movie star had landed the plane in Haiti late Monday to personally deliver supplies to survivors in the earthquake-ravaged nation.
The Grease and Pulp Fiction actor John, joined on the trip by his actress wife Kelly Preston, flew the Boeing 707 from Florida on Monday carrying four tons of ready-to-eat military rations and medical supplies to starving survivors of the Jan. 12 quake.
Travolta pilots supplies to Haiti
Travolta, 55, who holds a pilot's license, flew the Boeing 707 himself from Florida on Monday.
Besides the food and medical supplies, the actor flew in a team of doctors, a number of relief volunteers, as well as Scientology ministers to provide relief.
"We have the ability to actually make a difference in the situation in Haiti," BBC quoted Travolta as saying.
"I just can't see not using this plane to help," he added.
Travolta thanked Qantas Airlines bosses
Before flying to Haiti, Travolta had deep-heartedly praised Qantas Airlines bosses for lending him the passenger plane to make the mercy mission possible.
"I want to thank Qantas Airlines and (its chief executive) Alan Joyce. Alan is allowing me to fly the Boeing-707 that's sitting in the backyard, fill it with supplies, fill it with doctors, fill it with volunteer ministers, and take it down to Haiti on Monday - so thank you, thank you, thank you," he said.
Actor’s second trip to quake-hit Haiti
This is not the first time Travolta organized aid for Haiti. Just days after Haiti’s killer quake of Jan. 12, the actor arranged for a plane and volunteers to travel to the quake-shattered island.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight last week, Travolta said, "I have arranged for a plane to take down some volunteer ministers and some supplies and some medics. My church has also arranged for 80 medics and 33 volunteers to go down."
He added: “I hope that inspires others as well. It's needed. We sent a plane down already, and we're sending another one down Monday, and I'm flying. I'm looking forward to that."
Travolta’s aid run during Hurricane Katrina
Travolta did a similar aid run during a natural disaster back in 2005 when Hurricane Katrina slammed the U.S. Gulf Coast, destroying tens of thousands of homes and killing nearly 1,500 people. At the time he flew in five tons of food to victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Meanwhile, Travolta and his wife have flown back to home after unloading their passengers and supplies to Port-au-Prince.
